Hi, I just wondered if anybody had completed the fast track - Health and Social - Return to study programme at UCLAN? It is aimed at mature students wanting to progress onto a degree. I start in January and hope to go on to study a nursing degree in March. I'd love to know if anyone has experienced the course and what it involves etc. (This is my first post) Many thanks Lauren xx

Great to hear that you are returning to study! Our part time return to study entry programme runs over six-weeks during which you will be introduced to key concepts important to the theory and practice of Nursing and Health and Social Care. You'll develop the academic, literacy, and numeracy skills required for future study. This will also be the perfect opportunity for you to gain insight into what it would be like to study an undergraduate degree.
If you have any questions I will be more than happy to help. Best wishes, Sarah

Hi @esther.beauty, How are you? I just wanted to say that if you have any questions about any of our courses here at UCLan, I'd be more than happy to help. 😊 Best wishes, Sarah
Hi. Please can you tell me if the return study to Health allows you to go straightly into first year of adult nursing?
It's great to see that you are interested in studying adult nursing here at UCLan. 😊
Our Nursing - Return to Study course is for UK applicants only and upon completing this programme, you may be eligible for entry into Year 1 of professional health and social care programmes, including nursing.
I would recommend you have a look at the pathways section of our Nursing - Return to Study course page as this will give you lots of information on the options available to students on this entry programme.
If you have any questions at all, please do ask. 😊
Completing our Nursing Return to Study programme doesn't guarantee you entry into year 1 of our adult nursing programme. For more information on our return to study programmes and to discuss through your options, I'd recommend you contact our friendly course enquiries team who can help. You can either email the team at [email protected] or you can call them on +44 (0)1772 892400.

Hi Rachycee Yes, I completed the fast track return to study with UCLan and now 4 months into my 1st year. If you have any questions please give us a shout. Lauren 😊
Hi Lauren thankyou ! I've applied but having read more into it it states I will need my Maths GCSE to then progress onto the 3year nursing degree 🙃
I am able to go straight onto the nursing associate foundation degree I have 56 UCAS points. My only issue is if I will be able to do it. I've been out of education for years I'm 38 with a son . Much supportive family to help out but I'm doubting the acedemic side of things x

I'm so glad you've applied.
So basically half of our return to study group didn't have their maths gcse either (they also accept level 2 functional skills) but it is covered in the 6 weeks so the people that don't have it just have to do a little exam towards the end (MCQ) and if you pass you go into year 1 of the degree. If you don't pass then you automatically go onto the foundation which is the year before degree. (4 years in total) the maths is honestly really basic and the uni will definitely offer you one of the two options.
Please do not worry, I am 39 and also been out of education since leaving school. The return to study eases you back in and prepares you for going onto the degree. It's an excellent course and really put me at ease prior to starting. Just go for it honestly, you will be fine and the support is amazing 🩷 xx
Thankyou for that . How have you found the beginning of your degree? Have you any opinions on the nursing associate foundation degree ?
It's been fine so far, it was nice starting with the rest of my return to study group as we already knew each other which made it easier. We're about to go out on second placement in a couple of weeks which I enjoy better as I learn better in practice. Academically, we've had one essay so far and like I said I'm not the most academic person in the world but you have so much support to guide and help you along.

You do not need to pay for the return to study programme with UCLan and it is only 6 weeks! It's a fantastic course if you want to progress onto year 1 x

Also in regards to the Nursing Associate degree, I don't have much experience with it but a friend of mine did it and is now doing her top up for her full nursing as she wants the extra banding pay 🤭

Ahh that's good. I really don't know weather to apply for nursing associate as it's 2 years . See how I feel about it as I can then go into different settings. Obviously lower paid but given my age I'm unsure what's best at the moment . Did she say the course was manageable?

Yes I totally get that, it's a difficult one but I suppose it depends on what your end goal is. My friend really enjoyed it and got through it just fine but like I said she regrets just not doing the full 3 years. You can always just do a top up though. When is the next start date for the return to study?

Clearing closes in Oct for where I'd like to go . I suppose the assosiate gives you the option to either work within adult/children disability or mental health I am still unsure in which I'd like to progress into you see.
