Costie Livs in Cardiff as a Muslim

Hey guys, I'm due to enrol at Cardiff University this coming September. I've never been to Cardiff before so I'm not sure how my living costs will add up compared to London (especially for Asian groceries which tend to be pricey). I should probably also mention that I'm a Muslim, and I'm not sure how close-knit the Muslim community there is. Halal meat tends to be marginally more expensive here in London, but it's widely available. What's the situation like in Cardiff?

Hi there,

Current Cardiff Uni student!

Cardiff is one of the most affordable cities in the UK. After comparing uni in Cardiff vs London, my rent is almost half as well as general groceries, coffee etc being much cheaper! I'm vegetarian so I'm not aware of the costs of meat, however, I find food in Cardiff generally to be relatively affordable.

I hope that helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions

Hey! I'm joining Cardiff this September for Law. How is it?

Hi! Well done on your offer!

Law is a brilliant course - if you wanted to hear a personalised experience of the course, we have student reps such as Karina who you can chat to.

I was also a Muslim student here at Cardiff for 4 years - so I can chat about that side of things! We have a really nice, close knit Muslim community here at Cardiff. The mosque is only 10 minutes away from campus and there are loads of prayer spaces on campus (around 5 over the top of my head, but I believe there are more)! I recommend having a look at Islamic Society to get a feel for what the Muslim student community is like, they also have some helpful guides on prayer spaces and settling into uni

There are loads of halal places to eat - within the Student Union, there are a couple of small shops that are halal! We also have big roads of halal restaurants, takeaways and international supermarkets. You'll most likely find your restaurants and halal meat on places like City Road. This is again, only a short walk from campus. I would say the price is quite affordable, and slightly cheaper than other cities I've been to. Since there are a few halal butchers around, I recommend having a walk around when you're settling in and scouting for the best price :p:

Let me know if I can help with anything else!
