Media At Coventry or Lincoln

I got my A-Level results today and was less than happy with the results as it means I did not get into my top choice. I applied for Coventry through clearing to study Media and Communications and they have offered me a place, however I also have an unconditional offer from Lincoln to study the same thing. I am not sure which would be the best uni for me to go to in order to study Media and Communications.

Or are there any other unis I could apply to through clearing which would be better than either of them?

Hey Fraser,

I appreciate this is a bittersweet day and I am sorry to hear you're not happy with your results.

Did you visit Lincoln?

I am assuming you are not entirely convinced if you have looked for other options via Clearing and spoken to Coventry.

What are you looking for out of your uni experience?

Hi :hello:

Have you looked into the detail of what the courses include? If they're courses with a practical element, what are the facilities like? What modules do they offer? What specialisms do the academics have? Would you rather live in a big-ish city (Coventry) near an even bigger city, or in a much smaller, more rural city (Lincoln)?

Only you can make this decision, but we can suggest things to think about!

Hi, thanks for responding. I'm looking for a good course but also strong ties to the media industry at a quality university.

Salford in Manchester has strong ties with Media City

Also being taught by industry professionals at uni is great - in my experience they tend to be at new universities rather at a Russell Group

Highly ranked universities may not have the best connections to industry.

Some others you may con
- Nottingham Trent
- Bournemouth
- Ravensbourne
- UAL
- BCU

If you're still not sure it is probably worth attending opens days this autumn and making a fresh application for 2024 entry.

Hi @Fraser2003,

Sorry to hear that you are disappointed with your results. But congratulations on your unconditional offer to study Media at Lincoln. Here at the University of Lincoln, you get access to specialist, industry-standard facilities and can learn from staff with industry experience. It might be worth speaking with some of our current students who study Media, via our Unibuddy platform, which you can access here. You can filter your search by subject area. It is always a good idea to hear from students, to hear about their experiences.

It might also be a good idea to call our admissions team on 01522 437530, as they will be able to advise further.

I hope this helps!

Best wishes,
Olivia
Hello! @Fraser2003

You should consider Coventry University as it has significant links with a wide variety of employers and media practitioners, such as Phoenix Cinema, Electric Arts and EA Games, many of whom offer professional experience opportunities in the forms of placements (subject to availability, successful application and additional costs may apply)2.

You will have opportunities to learn how stories are found, created and disseminated across a range of platforms working alongside students from other courses in the School of Media and Performing Arts. These collaborative opportunities allow you to widen your knowledge and exposure to other subject areas and professions. Also, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with other students, so you can share your insights and experience which will help you to develop and learn.Recent graduates of the course have gone on to work within the film industry, advertising, television, radio, communication management and PR, publishing, the arts and creative media and media education for companies including, Apple, Nielsen, Spark 44, WPP, Virgin, EA Sports, Jaguar Land Rover, Linney Group, IKEA Group, KPMG, Selfridges, Reprezent Radio, Citroen and the BBC.

For more information, please check the Coventry University website. Good luck!

Hey :hello:

It's definitely worth looking at what each uni offers in terms of modules, industry links and facilities and see whether it matches with what you're looking for from a course  It's also a good idea to think about the city that you'll be studying in and your experience outside of the course - any societies you may want to join, sports or extracurricular activities available too.

At NTU we have strong industry links, loads of opportunities to put your learning into practice and gain real world experience, newly refurbished media labs and courses taught by industry professionals. If you're still searching for your perfect course, our Clearing lines are open on 0115 848 6000 and our team can help

Just let me know if you've got any questions!

Morning @Fraser2003

Just wanted to check in and see how you were feeling today? What decision did you make yesterday? I hope you're happy with your choice and feeling happier than you felt yesterday. Remember, grades don't define your future, be proud of yourself and get ready to embrace your next chapter in life  #BeResultsProud

Do you have any particular preferences for specific media?
broad media courses aren’t always the best option.

what results did you get?
I went to Coventry University and stayed at CODE Student Accommodation and loved it. Coventry's media courses are solid from what I know of them.

Hi, thanks so much for your help. As it turns out I was 'extremely' lucky. I got contacted by the exam board and as it turns out my Drama paper was not marked correctly, an entire section of the exam was not included in the final mark. Therefore it went through a re-mark automatically and came back as a C. But before this I contacted University Of Liverpool, who were my top choice to see if they could take me with these changed scores and they accepted me and offered me a place before it was even confirmed that I had a C. So I am very, very happy - but also incredibly lucky - to have a place at my top choice. Thank you so much for your help!
