Does Oxford accept bad AS grades?

Hey all, just got my results back and found out I got a C in Core Maths. I really want to study medicine at oxbridge and have the A Level predicteds that meet the requirements for medicine but was just wondering do would it be worth it to even apply? I was one mark off a B and am thinking of getting it remarkedx

Thanks for your reply, if they see the C that I got in the subject will it downplay or like affect the authenticity of my predicted grades? If that makes sense 😭

Would they take my C in CM more or my GCSE grades

Haha I didn’t end up applying to Oxford, I went to an open day and it was gorgeous but at the same time it wasn’t everything I thought it was (so make sure you got to the open days!!). Arghh the quantitative paper was so strange, I remember the rain drop question but have no idea how I answered it, plus the swimming question in the stats test I completely flopped that one. Last years 2023 paper was much easier compared to whatever the papers were this year

Hopefully grade boundaries will compensate for a tricker paper. I saw that the 2023 papers had higher grade boundaries must have been easier. I stil need to attend some open days definitely which I will do so soon. I found the swimming question strange too. Good luck for results for A level and core maths.

Hey core maths didn't go so well for me I am considering retaking. Do you think it was worth it for you and did your school support you with this ?My school did not support me much lessons weren't great making you do qualifications with very little support. Which resources did you use that helped as there aren't many for OCR core maths? Would you recommend even getting a little bit of extra tuition or switching to AQA as I believe their exams may be easier? If your grade was better after resitting which I hope it was for you, do you think it was worth it and manageable alongside your a levels?

*I was also 4 marks off the next grade and since you were a mark off a B last time did you get it remarked and did it go up for you, this will give me some insight on whether its worth the remark? I am in a unique set of circumstances where I should have been given extra time and a laptop since I found out I have learning difficulties, but my school never did a formal assessment on me until later despite me informing them that one is necessary several times beforehand.

Hey I would say it’s definitely NOT worth it aha. Idk everybody is different but getting an A grade in Core Maths is nearly impossible. Take my advice and accept the result you got even though it’s gonna sting. Focus 100% on your a levels because that’s the only thing universities acc care about. Good luck for next year !!

Hey thanks for the advice, but I still am considering retaking. The truth is I got a D 4 marks off a C and I will probably retake in the future but not in year 13 due to my A levels. Not having extra time and a laptop even when I needed it did mess things up for me. I usually manage to push through exams and at lowest have gotten a B (6) which was at GCSE, but finding out I have learning difficulties at the end of year 12 after exams explains why I have to work 3x hard to hopefully get good grades. I just didn't manage to do it for core maths since it takes me more time to think, write and understand info, I could barely do it for GCSE my old school just didn't care. My new school just don't get it its the most frustrating thing ever! They did a formal assessment way too late and it was only through crying after one of my end of year 12 internal exams used for predicted grades where they decided to do something, but even that they just told me to sit all my exams even external and then they would do a diagnostic assessment.

I am applying to Cambridge because I know with majority 9 grades 7,8 and 9s at GCSE (also have extenuating circumstances for that other than not having access arrangements for this which disrupted my education) and A*A*A predicted I have a chance to go to at least a russell group uni since I do prefer more academic unis just because I am a really academic person, but will have to explain my circumstances. Do you think I should retake in year 13 and even if I do later on in the future after my degree can you suggest anything I could use particularly for OCR MEI B to help me?

Also is AQA better for core maths simply due to it having more resources and more people do it in general?
*applying for Human,Social and Political Sciences at Cambridge law at other unis also relatively top universities

Thanks for reading this I know its long, I just wanted to provide you with some context. Good luck to you too!
