Career start at 28

As title states i am a mechanical engineer with no real job experience apart from working at my fathers small electric repair company that generates a little over 200K net income. However i see myself more interested in finance especially shipping or energy finance. Is this path a good idea given my age and lack of experience since i will probably also need a masters?

28 is certainly not too old to be making a career change, most people now will likely work well past 65! Look at what apprenticeship opportunities are available, I'm nearing the end of a degree apprenticeship in software engineering and think it is an excellent option. I've seen many apprentices in their 30s and even 40s.
