Question for Medicine September 2024 intake

Dear All,

I am an International student applying for Medicine in the UK for the September 2024 intake.

I got a 3190 in UCAT with SJT band 1. My IGCSE score is all 9 and 1 A*. My Predicted IB is 7 for Maths, Biology and Chemistry HLs, with a predicted score of 43.

I have 2 weeks of shadowing experience in reconstructive surgery and internal medicine departments.

So far the Medical schools I am looking at are: Bristol, Birmingham and Sheffield. With Biomedicine at Kings.

Should I look at Newcastle or Aston or Nottingham or any other as my safe option? Any other medical schools I should consider, but not listed above?

Appreciate this group's advice on which 4 medical schools I could prioritise strategically for UCAS, to have the best chance for getting offers.

Many thanks in advance - look forward to your inputs !

your stats look great and should you apply to newcastle, aston or nottingham, they'd all interview you. in terms of offers though, aston generally has the highest post interview success rate for internationals out of those 3, (it was 83% for 2019 entry, 86% for 2020 entry and 75% for 2021 entry)

Thank you for the quick response & information. I saw this 2 posts on Aston

Is there any information about the post-interview success rate for international students for Medical courses in Newcastle and Nottingham as well? Be great to know, I scored a 142 on the Nottingham website.

Have a look at FOIs. i could only find 2020 entry where it was 48% post interview success rate and 2021 entry where it was 72% for internationals at nottingham.

for newcastle, i could only find 2020 entry and 2021 entry where post interview success rate was 65% and 59% respectively.

as for people's issues with the medical schools, i can honestly say the only med school i've never seen complaints about is leicester.
here is what some had to say about nottingham:

and here is what someone had to say about newcastle:

at the end of the day, people will have mixed opinions about the medical schools and as far as i can understand, the medical schools do try to continuously implement changes to benefit their students.

Hey,
From the looks of it you are in a good place for these Unis, Sheffield should be a fairly safe option for you too (as safe as anything can be for medicine) as your UCAT score is very high. I would look at unis that use UCAT as a scoring system for interviews as these will be good options for you.
If you have any specific questions about Sheffield, feel free to let me know!
Good luck with everything otherwise,
Evie (4th year medic at UoS)
