really unhappy at sussex university

since coming to this uni i’ve found it really really hard to make friends and socialise. this is weird because i’m a very social person for instance back home i had a large friend group and when i met with my boyfriends uni friends i enjoyed meeting them. i feel like i’ve not met anyone remotely similar to me at sussex and i feel extremely lonely here. i want to transfer or drop out because i feel like an outsider…

Hi there, sorry to hear this :frown:

Can I ask you, what have you been doing to socialise? In school and sixth form, you often make friends by the mere virtue of existing but in uni you sometimes need to be a little more proactive. Joining societies, going to events, speaking to people in lectures... do you do this?

I'm sorry to hear that :frown:

University is very different to school. As SY mentioned, try joining societies or events hosted by your uni - it's a good way to meet people that share common interests. I will also add that it takes time to find your people within the crowd; hold your head high and keep looking. I didn't meet my friends immediately either.

i met most my friends from motives on campus at susex

hey girl i go to sussex uni as well and feel SO lonely, which sucks bc i’m also a social person but just have not found my people yet at all ☹️ i get exactly how u feel. my ig is @xyussie maybe we could hang out sometime or get to know each other :smile:

hi! can I ask how u feel ab sussex uni overall? like student life as well as classes. Its been hard for me to find any up to date replies on here😭. Im an international student trying to choose between unis so I would really appreciate it ty!!
