Why isn’t the annexation of Tibet given much attention?

Ever since the annexation of Tibet by China in 1951, Tibet has been ruled under the CCP. As a consequence, Tibetans have no right to self determination, because there are no referendums. So, I ask why doesn’t the world properly advocate for Tibetan independence?

Because it happened so long ago, and the world has many other more pressing issues to concern itself with.
