How much government income from taxes is necessary?

In 2023 the government recieved 1,017 billion pounds from taxes, but the government only spent 784.1 billion. So, where is all our money going, and how much does the UK government actually need?

I'm not sure where you are getting the figures above from but the expenditure figure is way off and the government isn't running a c£240bn surplus.

For 2022-23 - spending was £1,087bn and income was £987bn. For 2023-24 equivalent figures are £1,189bn and 1058bn. Deficits in each case.
