Should I do an EPQ?/ Are EPQs worth it? *URGENT*

I am currently in Year 11 and have to give my three a level choices in a form which ends on the 22nd of January at 6pm and in additions to those three a levels, I was wondering whether I should do an EPQ.

The three a levels that I want to take are Art (but specialise in Photography), Product Design and German and I want to study either Product Design or Photography at University (preferably one in Manchester).

Is it worth it to do an EPQ as I have been looking at some other people's responses to similar questions but they are all mixed as to whether I should do it or not. Im wondering if it takes up too much time and I really don't like presenting to other people so would it be beneficial to me considering what I want to do in the future and what Universities I may go to?

Please can I have a response urgently and all responses will be greatly appreciated!

i'm in year 13 and doing an epq now because my sixth form was useless in telling us what one actually is (oops). i chose to do one because i'm not confident that i'll get the grades i need, and the uni course i've applied to says that it'll lower the required grades if taking an epq in a relevant subject, which was the main selling point honestly

presenting is only one part of it, and as far as I'm aware, it's a small part everything is marked, all your research and planning. i can't say how beneficial it'll be to your specific course, but having experience in presenting and researching independently definitely seems like a good thing.

also, you get pretty much full reign in what you do your epq on which is no bad thing, especially as you can do it in something you're interested in (as long as there's no overlap with things you learn about in your a-levels they can link, just not have the same content).

it might be worth trying it, and you can always drop it later on if you find it's too much work or takes up too much time

I would only do it if it's something you feel you will need to set yourself apart from others when applying for university or because you have something that you are really eager to write about. If you want to do it just to get a certain number of UCAS points, it would probably be better to just focus on your A-Levels. I see it being a benefit if the degree course you want to do is very competitive, but otherwise you may end up spending less time on them. I would also check the entry requirements for courses you think you will apply to and make a more informed judgement based on this. Also, keep in mind the length of time you need to spend on it each week.

I second this response. I only did it to get some more ucas points and i really regret it. Just more beneficial to focus on your actual a-levels

Thank you for all of your responses - I really appreciate it! I have decided to just do 3 a levels so that I can focus more on the a levels that I am doing so thank you for helping me make that decision 😀
