well, yeah my family are OVER THE MOON with me, appart from the fact that we have sent a few people there in the past(lol), because Newcastle is easily a top 10 or 15 Uni in the country and the CS school is one of the best in the UK with a good reputation Internationally too, we cant go wrong at Newcastle!

The student life seems to be AMAZING too, which is a plus-point really.

Yeah, its all good craic really, and the Geordies are all VERY friendly, friendliest City in the UK and the friendliest Uni too!!

Anyway, im off now, i have to be up early haha lol.
Hope phone calls go well tomorrow! Im sorting out my halls tomorrow hopefully.
Good luck!

I've emailed the CS department and also I've rang the accommodation office and changed my accommodation to the following;
1st Choice: Windsor Terrace
2nd Choice: Richardson Road

Lot happier now, I won't be leaving myself skint all the time!!
I'm really set on moving away, but I got a talk on student fianance today and it sounds terrifyingly like I won't be able to afford it.
My family earns too much for me to be able to get any bursaries, and I only get something like £4,200 in student loan. With halls costing about £3000 a year, with food, washing, entertainment etc, is it possible to live off such a small amount??? =/
I work in New Look and there is the possibility of a transfer to a Newcastle branch, but surely no buisness at all would want me considering i'd be going home for a month over Christmas, the busiest period, and leaving me unsure about fianancial support? Worries! I have no idea how much my parents would help me out, seeing as they have two other children, and i'm presuming my dad's offer to sell his BMW is a joke xDDD
How do people manage it???

Id really love it to be Windsor for my accommodation I dont think I can deal with the hassle of Ricky Road party life again...I do need my sleep sometimes

and yeh your overdraft is a best bit consider all banks, way up the pros and cons then have a think and go for it...I did have two jobs in term time..I missed out on a lot and it wasnt worth the money but it was the only way I could survive..Im aiming to work a lot this summer after I come back off my holiday

I visited Newcastle last week and took a peek into the administration office for a chat. I'm interested in Windsor Terrace, and the woman told me that all unconditional offers are provided for first. Since not that many unconditionals are given out, there aren't going to be enough to fill out the chosen accomadation, meaning you're practically guaranteed your first choice =D

Unfortunatly it doesent really work like that, because students who have deffered entry also get first dubs, as do international students.

I havn't met anyone in Marris house or Windsor terrace who hasnt had an unconditional or deferred entry. Id say apply to one and cross your fingers, but applying to both could land you without anywere and then you might get put in self catered leazes (which is would be awful). Thats what happened this year anyway.

So yeh, if i were you id apply to either marris/windsor and then one of the less popular ones (Victoria halls etc) or ricky road.

And in answer to whether marris is as nice as windsor, id say yes, if not nicer.

peacelovelemondrops
sharing a kitchen in Windsor Terrace with six other people means that you don't socialise as much as you would if you went to the likes of Richardson Road

Richardson road is exactly the same, except the kitchen will be smaller! In marris, windsor and ricky road you will be sharing the flat with 6 people, in a block of about 6 flats.

hope thats helpful!

well, I phoned CS Admissions, becasue the descision hadnt reached UCAS yet..... and she was doing it AS I PHONE HER.... spooky eh? lol
Well, it should have reached me by 4 oclock she said, so then im gon accpet it, sort out my accomodation adn finance.
Im gonna be going down in the next few weeks to see it also, CS Admissions have told me that (so long as i arrange it with them) Weds afternoon during term or any time out of term, I can look round the CS school... which is good

yep thats all very good tom your sorting yourself out mate

yeh Newcastle make every possibility happen to try and get you to enrol at the university, they are so helpful!!

and thanks for the advice btw, Ive changed both my course and accommodation now

lot cheaper, happy days ...

what would be spooky is if you ended up in the same block or in the same flat as me!
Reply 28
Thats excelent, Corky! Glad to her youvegot things sorted now.
I accepted my offer at about 5.30 tonite, and UCAS have told em that my place at Newcastle is now confirmed.

But its not letting me create a log in for Accomodation.
Its saying they want my applicant number, surname and date of birth. So i put that in, and its saying they cannot find my record.

Now, either;
-The database has not updated yet because my acceptance was so recent

or

-Im entering the wrong number.

BUT, ive tried BOTH the numbers that appear on UCAS Apply and the one that appears on UCAS Track+the Letter from Newcastle.

what do u think I should do?
Try again tomorrow and if it doesnt work, phone them up saying "Oi! I want a flat and youre stupid computer aint letting me!" (lol, well, not taht exactly... but u get me lol :P)

Yeahh, thatd be spooky if we end up in the same block of flats.... or even the same FLAT... wow lol.
We will have to meet up for a drink sometime when we are at uni!!

yeh mate but remember, I ain't even decided yet!!

and first you've got to REGISTER using yout UCAS application number (personal id), then it creates a log in and you create the accommodation when you login using the generated "applicant number" that they have given you.
I still dont know what to do mate!!!, but am gonna decide when am relaxed in magaluf
Reply 30
ahh rite, well decide wen you are relaxed, yeah!!

Hmm... i still dont get it lol :P Il try again, and if i cant get it to do it, i shall phone them tomorrow lol.
Reply 31
no, its not letting me still...... so Im gonna phone them tomorrow!!!

Jos ya tube, think of our besties in windsor T, none of them are gap years! Well except Jo.

Like she said, I would apply for Marris House/Windsor T first and then probably Ricky Road or Leazes as back up, at the end of the day it's better to be part of the big student community, even if you're not in your first choice.

Corky_LFC are you serious, you can email the accomm people to change your choices? WHY did I not know this last year?!
Reply 34
yeh you can its got the information on the accommodation website

That's exactly what I wanted to apply for! But now i'm so not sure- am I putting myself into a lottery for random accomadation if I choose that? Bearing in mind as well that I haven't even firmed Newcastle yet for fear of that 5% chance that i'll chicken out and go to Queens (though I doubt they'll want me now after my dad telling the Chancellor last night that I want to go to Newcastle and how much better it is than Queens... eek! xDDD)

Hi! Don't panic, that should be fine, especially if you'r working part-time (and full-time in the holidays?) as well. Also, will your parents contribute anything?

There are plenty of people going to somewhere with £4500 - £6000 accommodation with only a £3500 loan so there'll be loads of people in your position, don't worry! Also Newcastle's quite cheap to live in

£3500? That's horrendous!! xP
My mum said they'd probably pay about half of my accomadation, but i'm unsure weather that's ensuite or not (not sure i'd care about not having an ensuite, but there's always the concern about sharing with a minger! xPP). She's too polite to talk money directly, which leaves me a little high and dry trying to figure things out.
And because i'm a worrier, I worry about the debt, and I worry about loosing my job or not getting one at all, because i'd be travelling back to Belfast over Christmas.
Though i'm sure my parents wont let me starve =P i'm just concerned how often i'll manage to pay visits to Topshop once I become a student. Might suffer withdrawal! xDDD
Oh my god I haven't even been in a top shop since being a student... learn to love Primark my dear.

If you put Windsor T and Marris House as your choices you run the risk of being put in Leazes self-catered. It'd probably be better to put Ricky Road or Leazes Catered as your backup.
