Question on repeating a year. Caps.

Hi,

I've managed to make a real mess of my second year at Liverpool Hope uni and it looks like I'll have to repeat. If I do will my grades be capped at 40%?

I hadn't heard of the capping of grades until recently and obviously the prospect of repeating and ending up with just 40% is not an enjoyable one.

Any information would be brilliant.

Many thanks.

Depends on the uni, but at Durham I know that module resits in August are capped at 40%, not sure about resitting the year...

Best advice would be to contact your department ASAP, don't leave it hanging.
If you have any mitigating circumstances (illness, bereavement etc) and the exam board accepts these then the resit marks are usually not capped.
Yes, you should get some form of circumstances i.e. go to the doctor, make up a random illness and tell him to write you a note.
