You don't think you met your uni offer? Yikes :s-smilie:

Nah, my offers were unconditional. I'm not doing Maths out of choice, I'm doing a sponsored Engineering degree with INEOS, which is a great opportunity. I still really like Maths though. I think I'll do some Open University Maths course to keep in at it. I know I chose to do Engineering now by choice, but a part of me still wishes I was doing Maths.

What's the INEOS? Sponsored sounds good! And Engineering is really good for jobs in the future.

INEOS is a large petrochemicals company, most well known round where I live for owning the large oil refinery and petrochemicals plant in Grangemouth.

Yes, it's a good scheme, and I'm guaranteed a good job with them after it, so it's a great opportunity. Just the not doing Maths is a bit of a change, but I'll try to do my best to keep my hand in at it!

Anyone watch the latest episode of University Challenge?

You should remind me before it airs, not after :colonhash:

Did you win? If you didn't then tough, I won't be able to watch you live on TV ever again.

I am. Don't spoil whether you win or lose :colonhash: You're currently 30-0 down.

My point still stands that I might not be able to watch you live on TV, I shall find out in 25 minutes.

Can't believe no one got brewing :colonhash:

Oh, were you the mathmo?

I was like "yay come on mathmo guy" throughout.
I have an option next year to chose 2 from 3 modules, in your guys opinions, which seems the most intriguing and the most useful 2 out of the 3 ( meaning not being a too specialised module) :

- Optimisation
- Complex Analysis
- Vector Calculus

Asian guy reading mathematics?

Stereotype is strong, strong stereotype.

I really enjoyed complex analysis; I thought it was fascinating. Vector calculus is extraordinarily useful if you want to do any kind of mathematical physics. I don't know much (anything!) about optimisation, but I'd probably pick the latter two, depending on what you're interested in.

That's a bit rude, arguably racist. Why is his ethnicity an issue here? You shouldn't be noticing stuff like that from watching University Challenge.

I got my results a bit ago, but I didn't share! The end of an era...! *sniff*

Dissertation on a Statistics Subject ("Modelling Financial Decisions over a Lifetime") - 73
Graph Theory - 68 (literally in shock, as the exam was horrendous, and I just wrote down anything pertinent to Menger's Theorem, rather than actually attempting an answer to the question which was about some sort of nasty vertex covering arguments, and possibly proved opposite of results when doing stuff with epsilon-regularity!)
Stochastic Models in Mathematical Genetics - 68 (completely freaked out revision wise for this, so also pleased! possibly the least structured and most open ended course I've done at Oxford, so coming out with my sanity was prize enough!)
Graphical Models and Inference - 81 (!) Not quite sure what was so special about my script...!
Statistical Data Mining - 73 - definitely a result for churning some numbers through R and writing persuasively whilst having fun putting more effort into making the report look pretty with TeX and plots with nice colours.

So, somehow, after 4 years, after wading through Real Analysis, Linear Algebra, Rings, Groups, Fields, Geometry and God knows what else that I missed, I've ended up with a First  It can be done!
