You have to ask yourself how can a pserson be so misguidede about their faith that they would even attempt such a post on a forum such as this one

It it's what they truly believe then I wonder how the facts will affect them

Or will they simply ignore the inconvenient truth and pretend everyone else is wrong and they are right

It's pretty clear that he is basically caught in a hard place between accepting his god/religion being immoral and himself being immoral, he's simply trying to fit islam with modern secular values by outright denying the nasty passages of the quran.

To be honest, in my society, I'd actually welcome someone like him over some fundamentalist nuts who would take quran literally and think it's their holy duty to kill us all.

What I'd like is for him to admit it does teach that killing is OK according to islam but that he has chosen to ignore that parts of the quran as it is no longer relevant.

But yes you're of course right a better muslim is one who pretends all the violent stuff doesn't exist
Noble Verse 42:40
And the retribution for an evil act is an evil one like it, but whoever pardons and makes reconciliation - his reward is [due] from Allah . Indeed, He does not like wrongdoers.

Noble Verse 41:34
And not equal are the good deed and the bad. Repel [evil] by that [deed] which is better; and thereupon the one whom between you and him is enmity [will become] as though he was a devoted friend.

He the Qu'ran advocates that fighting fire with fire never gets you anywhere.

Except in the battlefield.

This is a very sad story indeed :frown:

http://www.christianpost.com/news/church-of-pakistan-confirms-christian-couple-was-burned-alive-by-1500-muslims-over-rumor-they-ripped-pages-from-quran-129429/

Islam claims that it is the solution to all human problems; if it's going to make such claims, it has to drop the demand that it be immune from all criticism or even satire.

That is, of course, leaving aside the fact that in this case, the couple appears to have been innocent. The level of violence against non-Muslims in Pakistan has gotten totally out of control

Yes, an awful story . Christians around the world pay a heavy price, as this article says http://www.opendoorsusa.org/christian-persecution/

It says 322 Christians are murdered around the world monthly for their faith.

my mistake for not taking your statement as a fact

Lol, why are you quoting every post except the ones that have verses from the Qur'an showing you're mistaken? :holmes:

Since the Qua'ran said apostates and people who don't believe in Islam should be slain?

Such accusations need proof.

Care to show your evidence.

Where in the Qu'ran does it state this?

Qur'an (4:89) - "They wish that you should disbelieve as they disbelieve, and then you would be equal; therefore take not to yourselves friends of them, until they emigrate in the way of God; then, if they turn their backs, take them, and slay them wherever you find them; take not to yourselves any one of them as friend or helper."

You cannot take one sentence or one ayah to understand the meaning. Read the next ayah which says :

Surah An Nisa vs 90:except for those who take refuge with a people between yourselves and whom is a treaty or those who come to you, their hearts strained at [the prospect of] fighting you or fighting their own people. And if Allah had willed, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you. So if they remove themselves from you and do not fight you and offer you peace, then Allah has not made for you a cause [for fighting] against them.

Except those who wants peace or treaty.... and further it says as long as they restrain from fighting US.
So horrific :frown:

What the hell. Pakistan isn't even under Sharia law so why do this?

‘At the time of the Umayyad caliphate, the people of the covenant, Christians, Zoroastrians, Jews, and Sabians, all enjoyed degree of tolerance that we do not find even today in Christian countries. They were free to practice the rituals of their religion and their churches and temples were preserved. They enjoyed autonomy in that they were subject to the religious laws of the scholars and judges.’ - Will Durant

“Beware! Whoever is cruel and hard on a non-Muslim minority, curtails their rights, burdens them with more than they can bear, or takes anything from them against their free will; I (Prophet Muhammad) will complain against the person on the Day of Judgment.” (Abu Dawud)

Non-muslims living under Islamic law have far more rights than some people have been led to believe http://www.call-to-monotheism.com/the_status_of_non_muslims_in_the_islamic_state

What happened was indeed horrible. But don't go blaming Islam because of uncivilized idiots. No one has the right to take away someone's life, no matter what. That is what Islam teaches us. So people like you should seriously stop this whole blaming on religion thing. Period.

I'm sorry but this is not an isolated incident.

Do you remember the Danish cartoon incident, the Innocence of Muslims controversy and the fatwa against Salman Rushdie?

Violence seems to be the immediate reaction of many Muslims upon perceiving the slightest alleged insult against the religion, and this is given cover by "moderates" who should know better when they stand behind these reactions by giving mealy-mouthed excuses rather than standing up for free speech

That's simply not true; Islam has aggressively forced conversions and taken over churches. The fate of the Hagia Sophia is a perfect example of this.

In 1453, Constantinople was conquered by the Ottoman Turks under Sultan Mehmed II, who ordered this main church of the Orthodox Christianity converted into a mosque. By that point, the church had fallen into a state of disrepair

And contrary to forcing people to accept Islam, God explicitly prohibited forced conversion: “There is no compulsion in faith” (Qur’an 2:256)

In relation to the revelation of this verse: A man, who was among the companions of the Prophet, had two sons who embraced Christianity before the emergence of Islam. The two sons came to Medina among a group of Christians, and at that time their father insisted that they both should become Muslims. They refused their father’s request and brought the matter before the Prophet. The father asked, “Oh Prophet of Allah, how could part of me enter hell while I am watching?” It was then that God revealed the above verse forbidding any compulsion in religion. Thus, the man’s two sons were free to remain Christians. The Prophet did not force them to become Muslims according to their father’s wish.

“I became more than ever convinced that it was not the sword that won a place in Islam in those days in the scheme of life. It was the rigid simplicity, the utter self-effacement of the Prophet, the scrupulous regard for his pledges, his intense devotion to his friends and followers, his intrepidity, his fearlessness, his absolute trust in God and his own mission.” - Mahatma Gandhi

The French historian Gustaf Lobon stated in his book, Arab Civilization, “Power was not a factor in the spread of Islam; that’s because Arabs left the people they vanquished free to practice their own religion.”

This **** is shocking and disgusting. Burning is God's way of punishment, and shouldn't be used as a punishment. The blasphemy law should be abolished because of it being exploited and anyone accusing anybody of blasphemy should be severely punished if they cannot produce evidence while the law is yet to be abolished. How can they even justify what they did if this really happened? How in the seven earths they assume God is on their side...
