The Student Room Group

You're given £9,000,000. What do you do?

Just want to hear what you'll do with £9,000,000. What do you go out and buy, how you'd spend it, where do you spend it, would you invest in a business, would you invest in a better life style, what your split will be etc.

Secure a huge house with my fav car for me - £1m

Invest in other houses and become a landlord, and rent them out - £4m (8-10 properties)

Invest in a business, not sure which one but put a significant amount in to it - £2m

Keep £1.5m as cash reserves

Enjoy the rest, I just became a millionair - £0.5m

I'd send it to my friend in Nigeria who is having problems with his fathers illness. He says it would pay for his operation.
Split it between giving money to my parents and giving money to charity.

I think the majority here would appreciate how hard our parents have worked for us, to see the relief on their faces when their mortgages and bills are paid off is the best thing a child can ever do to take that burden off their parents' shoulders.

Also Charity is also important to me, giving to the less fortunate in the world is something that I would always do if I have that kind of money, there are much more people in this world who need that kind of money to change their everyday lives, building a stable future, education and having the basic necessities to live on .

Buy a decent house
give money to my parents
quit uni
Do whatever I want I'm rich!
Become a landlord
Buy a nice house and nice car.

Put the rest in a savings account or some form of assets which earn interest.

Live off the interest and never work again.

Build a house with stone walls, wooden beams and a big fire place.

Buy some banging tech.
Buy a nice car.
Pay off the mortgages of my family.
Travel. :yep:
NB: Very idealised..

£9 million:

£2 million in property investments
£2 million in investment-grade bonds (ideally as close to as AAA as possible) (still higher than baserate)
£2 million in index funds (gets better than high-grade bonds and baserate)
Assume average 4% net yield from rent/coupons/dividends = £240k/year. Disregard capital appreciation for now.

The above portfolio vests nicely in the short and long run.
After tax and expenses, grab roughly £120k cash.
Reinvest some, spend some.

£2 million for trading and investing in the financial markets (IG Index etc) (Spread bet for 0% tax on return)
Assume 0% yield and sunk cost. Any profit is a bonus.

£1 million cash (reserve and spending)
Assume 0% yield after spending.

Actuallt, i never thought of that but it would be a good idea.
Buy £7.5 million worth of apartments in Hong Kong, Tokyo, London and New York and rent them out.
Give £1.4 million to my parents.
invest £0.1 million in financial markets.

I would also continue working, cos i hate sitting doing nothing haha
Nice house with music room, games room, pool and gym. £1m

A nice car just to show off but keep my current one £50k

Pay off all debts and buy stuff for friends and family £1m

Invest a few million in a very low-yield bond...

In terms of life I reckon I might carry on working until I'm qualified but after that I'd go back to uni to do something I really fancy and enjoy it. Oh, and a mental night out and a decent holiday.
It would accelerate me towards my plans of the future with my current start up business.

Id probably buy a fair few houses and rent them out.

Definitely buy a couple of hyper cars.
Buy some cottages sat on a nice amount of land. One for my partner and I, the others for when family and friends want to stay, or possibly move in. It would be great to be surrounded by nature.
Give money to family and friends and place some in the bank for the children in my family and my partner's family so that they have some security when they grow up.
Set money aside for a Master's degree for after I graduate.
Give money to charity, and/or start up my own.
Keep the rest to live off and to help out others.

Buy stables in Newmarket, buy Arabian thoroughbreds, train and then race them.

If Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum can do it, then so can I.
