Is it broken? (graphic and embarrassing)

I'm worried I may have done something stupid. This is a real query so please don't think it's a joke and delete it.

I am a 21 year old virgin. When I was a child I had an experience with a man and since then I've not done anything sexual with another person. I have 'explored', trying to get some confidence in my body, but only on rare occasions have I been able to get anything 'in'. Lately I've gotten close to a certain man, and I feel now that I'm about ready to have a proper relationship, though I'm obviously worried about this problem.

I have never been able to use tampons. I always thought there was something wrong with me because most of the time I couldn't even get a finger in 'there', but I've never been to the doctors because I don't have the self-confidence to be knicker-less in front of anyone least of all a doctor.

So anyway, when I turned 21 I decided I was too old to be ducking out of swimming every month. I'd read about it a lot on here and it seems safer than tampons so I bought a mooncup. Well, it was a disaster - I couldn't even get it in a little bit, let alone all the way. I took the advice of someone on a forum (I think it may have been this one) and bought some KY jelly and tried again - still no luck.

I thought maybe my hymen wasn't broken so I looked online for some diagrams to see what it should look like then laid on my bed with a mirror to compare. The opening I saw was much (and I mean a lot) smaller relative to the other parts than what was in the diagram. I figured that if I wanted to use the mooncup and to start being with a man I'd have to get over this and I wanted to make sure that I'm normal down there. So I (and this is the really dumb part) peeled a banana and tied it into a condom and used some KY jelly to put it in. After much wiggling it went in about 3 inches then when I pulled a tiny bit it slid back out but had some blood on the end. I looked in the mirror again and I was covered in blood down there. It's not bleeding very much now but it was bright red. Did I break my hymen or should I be very worried? It was a little uncomfortable but not painful.

I would say it was broken, given the blood and everything but I dunno. All I can advise is you don't insert fruit into your vagina again.

i realy dont know much about this kinda stuff, so im not guna diagnose you with some problem!! but, although you may be realy embarased, i truly think you need to go to he doctors - to make sure, to be safe.
not to scare you in ANY way, and it probably isnt this AT ALL, but just to let you know that it could be very serious... the fact that its bright red blood means that its not part of the menstrual cycle, and bleeding from inside can be a serious problem - but its realy probably not, its probably something very simple. but i would stil strongly sugest you get it checked out by a specialist because at the end of the day, none of us on here are doctors, nor have seen the problem, so its hard for us to say what it actualy is.
if you do go to the docs, i would get an appointment with a gynaecologist - i wolud sugest this as they see the vigina every day, so will most probably make you feel more comfortable, and you knowing that sould hopefuly make you feel more comfortable.

this thread makes me feel sick. I doubt a guy would think of you any different if you were still a virgin. You really could of and might of done yourself some serious damage.

Not the brightest idea, you'd have been better trying with a vibrator etc than a piece of fruit! It sounds like you've broken it, given the blood, but it might not have broken fully. If you're getting close with this man and feel as though you want to go further, just explain to him you're a bit worried it might hurt etc (I take it he knows you're a virgin). You don't have to go for sex straight away, he can use his hands or his mouth (sorry!!!!) whilst you explore eachothers bodies. As you become closer, you'll relax more which will make things much easier. Don't force anything as this will obviously make it worse. It will happen gradually. Even try yourself but don't put pressure on yourself. If in a while this is still a problem, then go to a drs surgery and ask to see a female doctor or nurse. they see this kind of thing everyday so no need to be embarassed or anything and hopefully they'll be able to give you some advice or information or help resolve a medical problem if there is one (which is a relatively small chance, its just first time nerves and inexperience). good luck xxx

anyway on a serious note, girl go see your doctor to make sure you are ok. you may have lost your virginity to the banana lol but erm yea. see a doctor and what were you thinking. you shouldnt have even thought of it.

okay i have a question - why did you peel the banana first?!

maybe u just broke ur hymen, although some people have some extra bit of skin down there which means they have 2 much smaller openings rather than the one normal one, so it may be worth getting it checked out, even if just for your own ease of mind. then if ur all fine u can conclude that it's not a medical problem and u just need getting used to things down below.

Fleece - tbh, I'm disappointed in you, I thought you'd be a bit more sexually adventurous than that, nothing wrong with involving fruit, by yourself or with someone else...

Not sure about the OPs problem though, no personal experience of hymens! I just hear that apparantly its quite common to break it through general things rather than actually anything sexual.
