Of Mice and Men - Candy and Curley??

since everyone is predicting that curley or either candy will come up, what can you say about them? any insightful analysis'?

i'm still shocked that they did a question on slim so it is possible for a question to come up on the minor characters sadly :frown:

or anything on Carlson???!

Curely wears his glove to show off his power to the workers. This is because of it's price tag. He also uses it as an item to emphasise his marriage with his wife, again emphasizing his power over the other ranch workers. Everyone should dream about being in curley's position of power and wealth but instead everyone hates him and looks down towards him. Slim one of the ranch workers is respected more than Curley. Here Steinbeck could be showing us his hatred of the American dream and how it was really unrealistic at the time when the novella was set.

Carlson will more than likely not come up because he has no major significance in the book. However writing about Curley you must mention that he is the main antagonist in the novella, and use some major quotes from his fight scene with Lennie. You must also link him to a theme (power for example) and mention a few characters that link to him like his wife.

For candy you must also analyse his speech and link him to the dream and the theme of disability. There is a lot to write for each character because they both have significance to the book.
