how would you revise for this then just literally foreign policy in the conservative dominance period with the Liberal interlude?

These are just my predictions so don't take what I'm saying too seriously, but I would suggest looking at the success/ failure of foreign policy under the conservatives in that period politically and socially/ economically

For instance: chamberlains imperial successes: unification of Australian colonies who sent troops to help in the boer war
Encouraged research into farming and medicine: fruit exports from colonies increased. breakthroughs in treatment for malaria + sleeping sickness
Politically: empire was very popular Amongst british public at this time so therefore putting a strong empire as part of the conservatives election campaign (1895) possibly helped conservatives win election + khaki election.

Failures: boer war was a failure. It possibly proved that too much intervention in colonies led to expensive bloody wars. Exposed britains weakness began the debate of national efficiency. Boer war contributed to the conservatives losing the 1905 election.

Therefore: foreign policy was a success politically and economically in the short term but disastrous for the Conservative party in the long term.

For labour maybe questions about what was more important for the rise of Labour Party. Trade unions? Electoral reform or the mistakes of the Tory/ liberal party.

Or a question on what effect the rise of labour had on the liberals and Tories.

I think for this unit it's very important to not just think about the events that happened but of effect they had on the state and people hence the title of the of the unit. Always try and find themes and evaluate those themes. Sorry about all the spelling mistakes I'm revising like crazy and I can feel every second passing until Monday!

How did everyone find it?

I didn't prioritise my time. Went straight into the conservative dominance essay - three pages on conservative beliefs, leadership and liberal failings. I think I gave enough balance and synoptic links etc.

Didn't finish the labour question. I used the themes of socialist revolution (largely managed that), emphasising of trade unions (Osborne judgement helping) then I ran out of time so I missed out my conclusion and third theme of popularity (lib lab pact). Very weak compared to my other essay.

I need a d on this exam. Roughly from what ive said does anyone think this is possible? Or not because I stopped abruptly? :s-smilie:

I think that sounds quite good. How did you say the Osbourne judgement helped? What balance did you get in this one? eg. met aims/did not meet aims?

The Gladstone morality one looked hard!

Did you guys include all pms in the Conservative dominance one? Dis, Salisbury and Balfour??

Gladstone one was fairly easy I thought. I did q1 and 3. Just gotta say how he didn't like war or expansion of empire, but his foreign policy did not reflect this (e.g Sudan, Egypt, Afghanistan South Africa) in the end I concluded he was a 'reluctant imperialist'.
Labour one was good too but I forgot to mention the Osborne case, but remembered Taff Vale. Only thing I was weak on was dates, I was very wishy washy with dates. do you think it would effect my mark dramatically?

I didn't revise it because it had already been done and thought it wouldn't come up again! I bet people scored very highly on this question.

Did questions 1 and 3...always feel it's hard to measure how well I answered them, but I feel like I knew enough strong points, just about how I wrote about them and developed my arguments I guess. Who knows what grade boundaries will be.... probably higher than last year which was 66 for an A
