Typical week at uni
Hey, could anyone share their stories about their typical week at uni? What course in what uni do you do, and how much time lectures and studying or work takes up? I am so confused, since I read that someone said that in most unis there are no lectures on Wednesdays, is that true? I just wanna know how much time do you spend at uni, how much free time do you have each day and etc

Wednesday is a day for sport, but not all unis get the whole day off. Mine can have lectures until 1pm on a Wednesday, and then the rest is off for sports.

Pre-clin medicine. 9am-6pm all days bar Wednesday. A mixture of lectures and tutorials with about 3 1 hour breaks thrown in there? Wednesday's always finish by 1pm for sports. Erm later on in semester timetable lightens up a lot an you have wayyyyy more free hours during the day and sometimes only about 4 hours of scheduled teaching a day.
As for work, tutorial prep takes about 30 mins-2 hours a night and usually lectures and revision can be left for the holidays. There's loads of free time to do what you want
Clinical years is sort of you go and if there's an opportunity to learn you just go with it.

Glad to hear that you do have free time, because everyone keeps saying that you're so busy with studying that you barely have any time for your interests. Thanks a lot for this informative answer,just what I was hoping for
Are you studying a science or an art? Chances are, if you're studying a science you'll have much more contact time, but won't be expected to do as much extra reading. If you're an arts subject you'll have less contact hours, but will be expected to read a lot of different sources, and be very critical of what you're reading. Either way, I think there's still plenty of time for hobbies.

Course: criminal justice and criminology
Monday: lecture from 4-5. I barely went to those lectures because it was at such a random time so I sometimes treated Monday as a day off
I always watched the lecture podcast online though and made notes to prepare for the seminar. I'd do a weekly shop on Mondays too.Tuesday. Worst day. It's basically 9-5. I have a lecture at 9, which I attended often

On occasion, I'd leave a little earlier so that I had time to get a full English from the canteen, then depending on how much reading I had done for the upcoming seminars, I'd either go to the library and do some work or go back to my accom and have something to eat. Next lecture at 12. I always got there on time even though it's mind numbingly boring at times. First seminar of the week was at 2:30-4. It was for my law module, and our lecturer would always give us lot of questions to answer which we'd bring with us to the seminar to discuss. Last seminar was at 4, so I was always a few minutes late. This one was always laid back, might be because it was the last of the day. We'd often watch a short film and then a group discussion. She was always lenient with asking about the readings/questions we've answered so didn't have much prep for this seminar. Would usually just go back to accom after this, eat and then eventually fall asleep.Wednesday. Had one seminar 11-12. My favourite seminar because I was always prepared (lecture was on Monday). Wouldn't do much for the rest of the day. Maybe catch up on reading or just generally lounge about. There was a party on every Wednesday night so I'd go to that often enough.
Thursday. Lecture 10-11. I hated this module and so my attendance to these lectures were quite poor. I watch the podcasts online and made notes though. Seminar 3-4. It was always a bit invasive. She would go around to each person and ask them one thing they learnt from the lecture and to discuss their points *yawnnnnn*
Friday: day off
depending on how I'd feel, I may go home for the weekend or go shopping with my course mates and if we were feeling it, we'd go for a night outOriginal post by Domciuz

No worries, I'd just echo what some of the others have said and that it depends which degree you do and the university! Our med course is supposedly super intense, but it hasn't felt that way and I've enjoyed it and I've picked up a few sports, get time to go to the gym and I do some charity work every fortnight
On top the usual nights out that is, but ofc going out isn't everyone's cup of tea There's loads of time to do what you want and there's so many opportunities and societies and interesting people around, you're kinda spoilt for choice! Also, for pre-clin, I remember we got massive summer holidays!
I don't have a day off, most of my lectures start at 10 and end at 15pm, I don't always attend classes, infact most days I don't bother going to classes especially if I have all the course material for that subject. I go to the lab and study forex trade.
One thing that I learnt during my A-levels is that teachers/lectures are redundant 70% of the time.
The time I had problems in uni when not attending was when I found algorithms to be difficult, the lecturer was still useless when I consulted her. Ended up on YouTube

I go to Bishop Grosseteste University in Lincoln studying Drama in the Community. During my second year, my timetable was as follows: I was in lectures 10-1 Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (however, those times were later in the year - they were extended at the beginning). During a typical week I'd have Monday's and Friday's free at first as well as the weekend. Therefore, I used this time to shop, travel, work and study etc. However, as time went on, all my free time went on rehearsals - you'll always find work to take up your free days. It's a guarantee on my course because of rehearsals but yeah. That's my typical week. Lectures and if I wasn't in lectures, I was socialising or working.
It depends on the university and their course and their timetable if there is a free day. It may not just be Wednesday's - as people have mentioned across some uni's, these days off are for a specific reason.

I was in lectures or tutorials for about 10 hours a week. I would spend probably 6-8 hours a week doing the work for tutorials and extra reading, which I would fit in around my scheduled hours / when I felt like it.
You do have a lot of free time, I rarely worked after dinner (minus exam period), would always lay in (lectures permitting, and sometimes regardless), had time to regularly work out and spend time with friends.
