Adult Nursing (Specializing)

I am applying this year (2017 entry) for Adult Nursing, and I was wondering if there was an opportunity to specialize in Midwifery? If not, can anyone potentially tell me specializing opportunities for Adult Nurses?

If you're determined to do an adult nursing, you'll then need to do a secondary course to train as a midwife.
Otherwise there are plenty of opportunities to specialise in adult nursing.
It depends where your interests lie.
You can work in cardiac, theatres, Respiratory etc.
There's ample opportunities.

If you wanted to practice as a midwife, you would either need to do a midwifery degree or a postgraduate midwifery degree. If midwifery was what you wanted to do, you would really be better off applying for that degree in the first place as there are not many places available on the postgrad course and it is very competitive. Universities are discouraging applicants from applying for nursing degrees with no intention to practice nursing.

Adult nurses can specialise in pretty much any area apart from LD, MH and child nursing areas (although I have heard of adult trained nurses working in all of these). It would be impossible to list them all.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it. If I get on to the course, I'll try and keep an open mind to all the opportunities. This was a concern of mine because I've heard that in interviews they ask for what you wish to specialize in however I always thought I could make my decision once (or if) I started the course x

They certainly won't expect all applicants to know exactly where they want to work. It's very unlikely that you would even be asked. Only a very small minority will have some idea of where they want to work and obviously that is very likely to change after you have a few different placements and experience different things.

When I applied for nursing I applied with full intention to do midwifery afterwards. My college actually used to promote doing it that way because no one ever got into midwifery! Now I've started nursing though I've completely changed my mind and midwifery isn't really an interest to me anymore so I'm glad I applied for adult first. I know this won't be the case for everyone. Also if you are qualified as both your job opportunities and experience is massive. But if you want to be a midwife and nothing will sway you then I'd go straight for that because you'l just end up dropping out of something that your. It passionate about. Do not tell them you want to be a midwife in your interview they won't give you a place. You start as you mean to go on
