What you want is what the people who elected him in Ohio are unhappy about.

The French elections next year are going to be a terrible shock for those still clinging to the European dream.

It will be all about the EU which stands for globalisation, capitalism, the out of touch elite, mass immigration, and (in the eyes of many people) appeasement to Islamisation.

Facing the EU parties will be the one party which viscerally opposes all of the above. Which dares to state the politically incorrect. Whose supporters are called fruitcakes, racists, deplorables, fascists, Islamophobes, ya de ya. Rather than having their arguments engaged with.

There is no doubt that right wing populism can succeed in France but the National Front and the le Pen family is on the wrong side of the basic divide on the French right: Petain or de Gaulle. It is that whiff of treason about them which means they can't win.

They will win because of left wing voters changing sides.
