You're absolutely correct, the US has done everything in it's power to arm and sustain ISIS ever since it's inception. Also, Russia has mainly concentrated on oil fields that ISIS controlled and also targeted ISIS oil convoys going to Turkey. Of course, Putin has targeted other rebel groups but he is allied to Assad, so he is going to support him.

If other 'moderate' rebel groups have to suffer in order to rid the world of ISIS, then so be it.

The US has never armed or supported ISIS. They have also been targeting ISIS oil infrastructure, and the very first British strikes in Syria were on oilfields.

In terms of territory retaken, the US intervention has caused ISIS to lose pretty much all of their border with Turkey, and most of a Syrian province (Hassakeh province used to have a large ISIS presence, now it's limited to a few small villages). And they haven't really had any failed offensives.

Russia's intervention caused ISIS to lose Palmyra (which then then retook 8-9 months later), part of Raqqa province (totally recaptured by ISIS within weeks), and an area of countryside east of Aleppo (which the government still holds). The Russians have certainly helped the Syrian army hold the frontline in places like Deir Ezzor, east Homs and the Aleppo supply route, but don't overestimate how effective they've been.

The USA has actively been involved in empowering and using ISIS to topple Assad in Syria. This was recently confirmed in a leaked recording of John Kerry, where he confirmed in a discussion with syrian rebel groups that the USA allowed the rise of ISIS in hopes of it destroying Assad so that he would negotiate with the USA....

In Iraq a few years ago the USA was every other day making "accidental" weapon drops to ISIS...it became so common that the iraqi minister of defence came out on TV and said that the Iraqi aremd forces where given orders to shoot down any coalition plane suspected of making drops to isis.

ONE of those crates were captured by ISIS, the others all made it to the YPG as intended, who were surrounded by ISIS and running low on supplies. It ended up being a decisive defeat for ISIS that resulted in them losing a lot of territory in northern Syria, but it could have gone very differently without those supply drops to the YPG. You using that as evidence of "support" for ISIS is laughable.

There is no evidence of the US airdropping weapons to ISIS other than this occasion where one crate fell into their territory by accident. A lot of Iraqi politicians are very anti-American and see America as the enemy, as are many Shia militia commanders, and have good motive to make up rubbish like this.

Now, the US has certainly supplied some Syrian rebels, and some of that made its way to ISIS through defections and ISIS capturing their bases. But that is not the same thing at all as actually supporting them - by that logic, the former Soviet Union supports ISIS because the overwhelming majority of ISIS' weapons and all of their tanks are old Soviet equipment captured from Syrian army stockpiles. Which is clearly nonsense.

But of course, rubbish about "the US arming ISIS" makes nice clickbait which is why it's so prevalent on the internet.

They're a reprehensible group who have just joined with Syria's rebranded al Qaeda. But they are not part of ISIS. It's also unclear as to whether they are actually US supported anymore - there were claims of support to this specific group being cut quite a while ago, and some who think they're still being supported or were supported until more recently.

Just because I don't like nonsense conspiracy theories doesn't mean I support absolutely everything the US does in Syria or the wider Middle East.
