Unusual/unique phobias?

I have an unusual phonics - fingerprints. They’re horrible and disgusting and gross. I told like people touching me though so it may have stemmed through that? Not sure. Do you have a unique or unusual phobia?

How can you be afraid of fingerprints? Can’t use fingerprint ID on your phone or something?

when people eat loudly and with their mouth open it makes me want to vault myself over a cliff, physically cant listen to it. theres been times when ive hurt my ears by plunging my fingers into it and hightailing it out of the room bc someone was smacking their lips on beef or whatever

Do you guys understand the difference between a phobia and a “pet peeve”?

A phobia is an overwhelming and debilitating fear, it’s a type of anxiety disorder. It’s a horrible, terrifying thing to experience that shouldn’t be trivialised as an annoyance.

I know this wasn’t meant with disdain but please be mindful of language.
dunno if its unusual but i have a strong fear of being robbed lmao

How have you not had your IP banned yet? Where’s the anti-troll spray?
When I'm in the shower and my finger tips feel kind of gritty against each other when damp. Makes me feel nauseous :s-smilie:

Mooses
utterly terrifying
I wouldn't call it a phobia but I hate stickers. Just the thought of them makes me feel sick and I used to panic and cry in primary school when anyone tried to "reward" me with one. If we ever have to use stickers for whatever reason in school I have to get friends to do it for me cause I cannot touch them. I do get mocked for this a lot lmao
Im scarred of peoples breath
Clusters of holes. Like those lotus plant seeds, idk why but I cry and am physically sick when I see them. Just oh god.
Planes as well. Absolutely petrified to get on one. Not even meds get me on.

Ahh, so transphobic and homophobic mean "overwhelming and debilitating fear" of trans people and gay people, respectively? And rather than challenge bigots afflicted with these anxiety disorders, we should be holding their hands and telling them to think of rainbows? Clearly phobia has a much wider meaning than you're giving it credit.

Further, you don't even know the extent of these posters' aversions to the things mentioned. If someone can be phobic of bananas -- in the narrow sense you've given -- it must also be possible for someone to have a clinical phobia of loud chewing or people mispronouncing flaccid. So can you please be mindful of potentially dismissing people's phobias unnecessarily. Thank you!

Trypophobia! Misophonia is another. As well as Pistanthrophobia (fear of trusting people due to past experiences)
For a number of years I was really terrified of lamp posts lol, it was worse with particular shaped ones

Homophobia is different to phobia. The origin of it is actually pretty interesting, invented in the 1960’s by a psychologist, it was first printed in 1969 in a porn magazigne, and was used to refer to straight men who fear that other men would thing they’re gay. So the original purpose of the word was about a fear, which is why the word homophobia is derived from the word ‘phobia’.

Of course the word can and is used in different ways. But in a thread clearly stating “unique/unusual phobias” it’s not a big jump to assume OP was talking about phobias.

“I find feet really gross” is not having a phobia. “I have a fear of being robbed” is not a phobia. Doesn’t mean those things don’t matter, it’s just labelling it as something it isn’t.
