Electronic and Information Engineering

Hi

Could someone please enlighten me on this MEng degree at KCL? Is it focused on hardware only or does it include a considerable amount of programming as well?

To be more specific: would I be able to work in projects as a sort of software engineer after getting this degree?

Have you researched the detailed course modules? The focus is electronics, but there will be some coding.

Yes I have, it's just that I couldn't really see what distinguishes EIE from the actual Electronic Engineering course there.
There's just a *slight* difference in optional modules in year 4 and year 2.

I'd say if you want to generally be a coder do a CS or Software Engineering course.

But if you want to specialise in coding in an engineering environment (e.g. robotics) then this could be an interesting course.

I see that there are a lot of optional modules, and in the end we end up picking our own "path".
Even so, do universities in the UK allow students to change their course (same department ofc) in the first year, or even the first semester?

I know this is a bit off-topic but I've been wondering.. I'm hoping to take the right decision regarding my future, but choosing a career so early is scary, especially taking into account tuition fees in the UK.

Yes it's possible to change courses, especially within the same department, but it will depend on a few things including whether they have any spare places.

Many courses in the same department have a common, or at least, similar first year so it's not unusual to change the specific course going into year 2.

Ask the department now about any concerns you have. It's their job to assist you

Thank you, I have emailed them about that. By the way, I have just noticed this course is not accredited, is that something to be concerned about?

Since I've never lived in the UK there are many things I'm still not aware of
