wow i was about to say i've never met someone with your background, but i was telling people that the benefit of St Andrews over Durham is its internationalism, and you're the sort of person i had in mind so I hope you get in!

IR is probably St Andrews' most competitive degree though, so good luck

Sorry for the late response, but thank you that is so sweet of you. I have just received a response from St. Andrews and got offers from all 5 unis which I am ecstatic about! I have applied to Durham as well, but I definitely prefer the sound of the course and the environment St. Andrews has to offer.

Would you mind if I ask what was the hardest aspect of attending St. Andrews University?

To what extent did accommodation affect your overall experience at St. Andrews? I’ve heard some very varying responses.

Hardest aspect... I've tried hard to think of an answer but I've got nowhere. Is there anything more specific you'd like to know about St Andrews??

St Salvator's, McIntosh & Uni Hall = you get a classic, posh halls experience. Pricey/expensive but a really good experience

Andrew Melville Hall = much cheaper and a really fun, social experience, but without the poshness.

DRA/Fife Park = the most expensive but really cool, modern flat-style halls - under floorboard heating, big kitchens with sofas for parties etc. it's a 15 min walk into town which isn't nice if you don't like walking, but it great if you do (or want to cycle)

Agnes Blackadder = the only hall i wouldn't have been happy in. it's pricey and self-catered corridor-style halls so it lacks the social aspect. If I was put into AB hall i would have asked to transfer to DRA even though DRA is even more expensive

i actually edited my post to indicate where I stayed but you were too quick!

i mentioned that i stayed in St Salvator's, Uni Hall, Andrew Melville Hall and DRA (for a couple of weeks) and i had an absolutely amazing time in all of them, especially the much maligned DRA which i wouldn't have been able to afford to pay for a whole year.

i couldn't recommend them enough but all have pros and cons (mainly the price)

I wouldn't have been happy if i'd been in Agnes Blackadder Hall though
