I am looking to move out of home for university, but I want to have my own space. I don't really like the thought of sharing a kitchen or bathroom. I wanted to know whether there are any good full fitted studio options for a student accommodation.I looked at a lot of private owned studio apartments but the prices are unrealistic for a first-year student.

I've heard that Cambridge is the most social halls and am really wanting to have a completely social and immersive experience. I'm not keen on the facilities in Cambridge however so have been looking at accommodation with less bathroom sharing like the townhouses. Would you say that there is a noticeable dip in atmosphere in Birley when compared to Cambridge/ are you less likely to be put with like-minded people in Birley who are big on socialising/ going out etc? I wouldn't want to miss out on the social side for better bathrooms.

You can start by registering for student accommodation already and MMU will send out emails every friday with information about their accommodations. You only apply to a specific accommodation from April onwards

Yes you can only apply when you’ve made MMU your firm offer as they need to send you your student ID number to register for accommodation. And the first come first served starts from April when you choose the exact accommodation you want. All this information will be sent to you every friday with more detail after you’ve registered your interest for uni accommodation

Hi, i also want to stay in a hall that has a really good atmosphere as i want to immerse myself in uni life but i was thinking about briarfields. I just wanted to know if that is a lively hall or one of the quieter ones. If its a more chilled out one any other suggestions for lively halls ( preferably with 3/4 bed). Thanks 😊

We do have a few studio rooms available in our accommodation, for example there are 4 rooms available in Cavendish Halls which will be priced at £140 (pw). Please note that there are a few of these rooms on offer and they are often in very high demand. We do have smaller flat sizes which offer en-suite rooms with a shared kitchen for 4 students in Oxford court.

Registration for accommodation for the next academic year will be open to new students from the 01/03/18. You can register via our Accommodation Portal, provided that you hold a Conditional Firm or Unconditional Firm (CF or UF) offer to study at Manchester Met next academic year. You cannot register your interest if you have not firmly accepted your offer or if Manchester Met is your insurance choice.

New students will be invited to select their accommodation with us from April 6th.

The Birley Townhouses each have 12 rooms in total. The townhouses also feature a large open plan kitchen and lounge area on the ground floor which is perfect for socialising and studying with your friends. Both Birley and Cambridge are popular choices of accommodation and both feature large communal spaces for residents.

The Accommodation prices for the upcoming academic year 2018/19 have recently been confirmed and published on our website. You can view a full summary of these prices online here – please select 2018/19 Accommodation Fees from the drop down options in order to view the full details. The prices for the different room types have also now been updated on the individual hall pages, which can be accessed online here.

With regards to which of the accommodation options would be best for ‘going out and socialising’, we cannot guarantee that any particular hall will be sociable or loud/quiet, as this depends on the conduct of the individual residents at any given time. In general, the halls do tend to be quite sociable living environments, due to the shared nature of the accommodation, and larger flat sizes with more people sharing are often more sociable/louder options.

If this would be your preference, we have larger flats in Cambridge (up to 10 bedrooms, shared bathroom facilities) and Cavendish (up to 14 bedrooms, shared bathroom facilities).

If you were wanting your own personal bathroom, then we have en-suite options in larger flats at Birley Vine and Dunham (8 bedroom flats, Premium En-suite) and Needham Court (up to 8 bedroom flats, Premium En-suite).

There are plenty of events and opportunities for socialising on the University campus, especially during Fresher’s week. The vast majority of our University accommodation is located on or just a short walk from the campus, the only exceptions being Daisy Bank (approximately 1.5 miles away) and the private partner hall Wilmslow Park (approximately 1 mile away).

As the Manchester Metropolitan University campus is located very close to the City Centre, this means that most of our halls are just a short walk/bus or taxi journey to the centre of Manchester, and the wealth of shops, restaurants, bars and clubs therein. Many of these venues offer special deals for students, in particular during Fresher’s week, so you will not be short on places to go out!

You can view photos and 360 degree tours of the Birley accommodation (both the Townhouses and the En-suite flats) on the hall page here. The tours show the communal kitchens and living areas of the Townhouses and flats, as well as the study bedrooms. At present, we do not currently have any additional photos of the exteriors of the Birley accommodation options.

If you wish to view the interior of the accommodation in person, then you would need to attend one of our scheduled Open/Visit days – we will be running accommodation tours on these dates, which is likely to include the Birley Townhouses and/or En-suite flats. If you have already received an offer, you can book a place on an upcoming Visit Day via the University's website here.

Please note that we are unable to organise ad hoc viewings of our accommodation during term time, as we have the current students in residence. However you are welcome to visit the University campus and have a look around the exteriors of the accommodation at any time.

To give you a little more information about the layout differences between the two accommodation types at Birley: The Townhouses (Dale, Naylor and Warde) are laid out like terrace houses, with each one containing a large communal kitchen and living area on the ground floor, plus a shared toilet. There are then four bedrooms on each of the three upper floors (12 in total per house) and two bathrooms per floor. This means that each resident only shares their bathroom with one other person.

The En-suite flats (Dunham and Vine) on the other hand, have a more traditional hall format. There are numerous flats on each floor of the hall, each one containing 8 Premium En-suite study bedrooms along a corridor, and then a shared kitchen/living area at one end. Each bedroom in this flat benefits from its own personal bathroom.

Thank you for your message, and your interest in our University accommodation.

Prospective new students can register their interest in the University accommodation now. New students must be holding a Conditional Firm or Unconditional Firm (CF or UF) offer for a full-time course for September 2018 entry in order to complete their registration.

Registration is Stage 1 of the accommodation application process and is completed via our Accommodation Portal, which can be accessed online here: https://my.mmu.ac.uk/accommodation

In order to log on to the Portal, you will need your 8 digit MMU ID number and your password is your date of birth in the format of ddMmmyy (i.e. 15Mar18). Please note that this password is case sensitive.

Please note that when you complete Stage 1, you are registering your interest in all of our University accommodation and do not need to specify any preferences or commit to particular hall - this happens at Stage 2.

We will be emailing eligible new students who have registered their interest from 6^th April onwards to invite them to complete Stage 2. This will be an email specifying the date and time that you will be able to access Stage 2 via our Accommodation Portal. The entire booking process is completed online via the Portal – you will not need to come in to the University to book your room. These emails are typically sent on Fridays, inviting applicants to access Stage 2 from the following Monday onwards.

When you access Stage 2 during your specific timeslot, you will be able to see a list of the halls that we have rooms available in. On clicking on these halls, you will be able to select the specific floor, and then see the flats with vacant rooms available on this floor. You will literally see the floor plan of the hall/floor that you have selected, and then vacant rooms will show as green and booked rooms as red. If you click on a red booked bedroom, you will be able to view the age and gender of the resident. This is the only personal information that we are able to disclose about the other residents, due to Data Protection.

Once you have found the room that you want, you can select this via the Portal and then complete the next steps of the booking process (contract acceptance and paying the application fee) in order to secure it. To confirm, our self-assignment system means that you are selecting the actual room that you will then live in. We would recommend that you log on to the Portal to complete Stage 2 as soon as your timeslot commences, to optimise your chances of securing your preferred accommodation. Once you have completed Stage 2, this room selection cannot be changed.

If you wish to view the accommodation in person before making your selection, then you will need to attend one of our scheduled Open/Visit days. If you have already received an offer, you can book a place on an upcoming Visit Day via the University's website here.

Please note that we are unable to organise ad hoc viewings of our accommodation during term time, as we have the current students in residence.
