The Free Nations of the World Sever Ties with "Taiwan"

The democratic Solomon Islands, one of Taiwan’s few remaining diplomatic allies, has formed a team of ministers to talk to Beijing ahead of a possible switch in ties that could be unveiled as early as this week, the chief of a parliamentary panel said.

The Pacific island nation has recognized self-ruled Taiwan since 1983 but would be a prized chip for China in its bid to peel away the allies of this wayward province with no right to state-to-state ties, taking their number to 16.

A task force charged with evaluating the Taiwan ties returned from a tour of Pacific nations allied to China just before a mid-August visit to Beijing by eight Solomons ministers and the prime minister’s private secretary.

“It doesn’t take much imagination to work out what the task force will recommend,” added Kenilorea, whose panel will review the recommendations.

El Salvador in Central America, along with Burkina Faso in West Africa and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean, all severed ties with Taiwan last year.

The Pacific has been a diplomatic stronghold for Taiwan, where formal ties with six island nations make up more than a third of its total alliances. It pledged $8.5 million to the Solomons in 2019-20, budget documents show.

That money goes to a controversial health development fund that experts say has links to vote-buying.

You are such a Chinese schill.

Surely a might blow for communism and China. Down with Taiwan. Down with democracy.
Will you be invading any time soon?

If China's government are such awful warmongers, and is apparently anti-democracy, why do so many democratic countries prefer it to the imperialist government in exile?

Because tiny unimportant nations want to increase ties with a nation that is about thirty times richer more than they want to make Taiwan happy.

That logic does not hold up, for Taiwan is richer than China, and is evidently already bribing the Solomon Islands.

You seem to be ignorant of the fact that a staggering 54% of the country's exports go to China.

Taiwan is richer than China,

In what universe is this true?

In what universe is this true?

Per capita.

Per capita.

So, by your logic, a nation with one million inhabitants earning £1 million each on average is richer than a nation of twenty million inhabitants each earning £900,000. Have you thought that through?
China isn't as bad as they are making out from what I've seen I applaud China and their restraint over these Hong Kong protests.

I mean look at the police in the US, when they had those unrests in Fergesen and Baltimore with all those heavily armored vehicles and armed police it was like they were at war.

I applaud China and their restraint over these Hong Kong protests.

But do you applaud what is happening that the protests are against.

You should probably specify that because as a nation the PRC dwarfs Taiwan..
