Questions about Lancaster university

Hi Not a student here, but have a daughter whose just got an offer for 2020 (physics). So i can help on some of the questions.

1) What is the geography course like?
2) Although not based in a city what is lancasters nightlife like? Well they was going to get rid of Sugar nightclub which is srudent run and also student buses that go straight there. There was plans to turn it into student accomodation, but it got overruled by about 93% of students as i hear its a bit of a legend and iconic for uni freshers. Plus theres 3 or 4 more nightclubs in town, so your pretty good.
3) What’s the best accommodation (ie. Bowland/Fylde, etc. )? We loved County and Grizedale town houses, but also loved pendles shared accommodation. All are pretty good, but if you want a home away from uni, go for cartmel/lonsdale since its about 15-20 walk from alexandra square in the centre of campus. I would also weigh up if you want catered too. Fylde isnt catered, but they did great burgers and was a good sports bar there.
4) Is the WiFi signal good? not sure but hear its pretty good
5) Is it worth bringing a TV and XBOX to uni? If your studying and socialising, a TV you wont really use (and take up room in your car). You can always stream bbc/itv if you need to and watch netflix on line. Xbox though, yes, its a great way to socialise with mates.
6) Is there any parking for students if I owned a car? yes there is parking. I know a vlogger called Charlie Collette has a car there. But, it depends on cost of permits to park there and weighing up if its worth it if your only going to use it once a week for like say shopping.

As I am looking to apply for university at the moment I have many many questions. Being the first person in my extended family to go to university recently there is no one really I can turn to for guidance. My first choice uni is Lancaster to study geography (leaning more to the human side). I have many questions about not just the course but also uni life in general. Thanks to any current students or past students that can answer any of them.

2) The night life is quite pub heavy with loads of places to eat and drink. There's quite a few bars as well. There's the 9 college bars on campus as well if you don't fancy going into town, each with their own quirks/vibes. In town there's two main clubs: The Sugarhouse and Dalton Rooms. Sugar is the SU nightclub with a free bus there and back until about 4:00am and it's student only as well - it's very popular. Daltons usually does an alternative night to Sugar if you fancy something different.
3) There's a few different accommodation types: studio, superior ensuite, ensuite, townhouse, standard. Colleges have a different mix of accommodation so choose your college choices based on which accommodation you like. Do you have any idea of what you're looking for?
4) The WiFi is eduroam and is the same in all UK universities (so with your Lancs eduroam login you can login to any university wifi). I think it's mostly very good and you'll be provided with an ethernet cable in your 1st year accommodation too.
5) TV and XBOX depends on your accommodation type I guess! If you go for a townhouse or some standard accommodation then I'd say yes. If you go for something more private, they don't tend to have as great a living space. Obviously if you plan to just play in your room then go for it!
6) You would have to buy a parking permit and you may get denied one. They tend to be prioritised for committing students, special needs students or for example, students who use their car as part of a society. It is possible to get a permit (it will definitely be at Cartmel) or you can pay per day, but this is like £5 a day so not really worth it. You're encouraged not to bring a car but if you really need one it'll be possible.

For accommodation I’m looking at probably just the standard accommodation as when I came to look the shared bathroom looked like basically a bathroom like you’d have at home (this was in bowland so I don’t know if this is like this in other accommodation around the uni)

You can bring one for the kitchen but I'm not sure if you can keep it in your room.
Once you have your accommodation confirmed in the summer, it would be best to email the accommodation manager.

The main differences are the cheaper types are older. They also vary in the amount of people you'll be sharing a kitchen with.
