Bristol:
The atmosphere of the partner campus was amazing, and it was by far the place where I could image myself in the fourth and fifth year. The course seemed very well organised, and there are new developments, as well as a high case load, and an excellent reputation amongst prospective employers. Encouraged to intercalate in research, and chance at the end to have elective rotation for a period of weeks.
Unsure about how developments are continuing and the distance is the furthest. Expensive accommodation.

Liverpool:

Liverpool
Excellent teaching and research facilities, and the best employment rate, also the staff at were very welcoming and friendly.
Not so keen on Liverpool as a city but only seen the boarded up part, but it is the nearest, also the accommodation seems fairly priced.

Don't mean to make this harder but at Liv we're also encouraged to intercalate and we all do electives.
And I'd say you spend very little time (if any) in the boarded up part of the city :s-smilie: Time in halls you'll be in the very green Mossley Hill area. Free time'll be spent in the very swanky Liverpool One. And uni time... well, you're just in a lecture theatre
. Any more pros about liverpool? What do you do in first year? How is EMS run?

A couple of you mention the bio-vet - graduate way in to vet medicine.

I'm not asking for me (at the moment :p: ) but for a friend. She hurt her leg about a year and a half ago and because of all the hospital appointments (and painkillers  ) she basically mucked up her exams (not that badly I don't think). Previous to that she was a straight A student. All her life she wanted to be a vet, but because of that she thinks she can't. I am pretty sure she is resitting a lot, if not all of these courses this year.

Basically, what I am asking is: could she maybe get in to vet med the bio-vet then grad way (assume her grades aren't that bad)? Or is there another way to get in?

Thanks for any answers
EMS at bristol sounds really well organised.. and its all done in teh south west wihich is obviously the BEST place to do it

I agree, the EMS at Bristol sounds brilliant, with the database and then being able to pick and choose what you are missing later on. I asked about going back to practices you have been to on work ex for EMS, and they said that even if they didn't already have a people going there for EMS they would contact them and encourage it, which is great. To have the option of going back to an old practice, rather than just ones the university uses all the time, might be nice!

Hi im thinking of applying 2011 i know Glasgow Bristol and Rvc have relly good reputations and for me its not just about where i want to be but where is a nice place to visit for my friends and family when they come to visit. My sis went to London and we have some amazing memories of visits there.Trips on the Thames, theatre trips,SHOPPING! i think moving far away shows stamina and teaches you a lot.Glasgow has an amazing SA hospital i remember watching the tv programme about it,also Bristol have produced some celebrity vets ....Steve Leonard?i know liverpool is biased towards equine doesnt quite seem as organised but hey everybody has different ideas.im only just looking myself and going off what ive been asking people.i know somebody at Cambridge and hates it and regrets turning down Bristol!!

In terms of employment rates (which will be so high wherever you go it doesn't really matter) RVC and Edinburgh are the highest at the moment. Hmmm about bristol vets reputation among potential employers i have heard quite a few negative things about the state of Bristol's vet school atm from my vets who say it is a bit behind as we have discussed a fair amount on this forum. Intercalation wise if your interested in doing it you can do it pretty much anywhere except cambridge i think. When i went to RVC i talked to one of the lectures about intercalation and you can go do a intercalted degree at some of the other london universities like zoology at UCL which i thought would be pretty cool

In short i would choose your firm from your gut instinct where you think you will be the most happy and settle in the best rather then a pros or cons list
RVC offer!!!!

A in chemistry

Got it yesterday, just about sober now:woo:

To be honest, by the time we are all graduating in 5/6 years time, I would have thought that Bristol will be much improved and it will be another vet school whose facilities are slightly lacking. A lot can change in 6 years, and it is all swings and roundabouts anyway. But I would be saying that since it's my only offer and I have to like it!
Okayyyy! i haven't been on this in a bit!!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!! to everyone with offers!!! you rock

wish liverpool would be so kind as to give me one of their very few offers left!!! lol.

anybody with any ideas for their gap year??? cus that's where i'm aheading by the looks of it! :/

Oh really I never knew that I thought at cambridge the course was 6 years because you were learning extra science stuff from all your subjects rather then you did a whole year specialising in something

What you thinking of doing claire?
i thought you couldnt intercalate at nottingham

just to add it the 3rd year at cambs that you must do another subject/degree and it can be in anything. I believe you can do this 3rd year at either Cambridge Oxford or London ....

So you come out with an honours in x and your vet degree! Graduation twice haha =)

it was one of the things I realli liked about the cambs course coz toucan begin to specialise early, or do the degree you would if you couldn't do vet med =D

For me I'm thinking zoology or genetics atm...

If you intercalculate at other unis can you pick ne degree or are you given a small selection to pick from ?

ahh so if you are a graduate and apply as an affiliated student you do it in 5 years so do you just miss out the year you would be doing another degree seen as you've done one already?

Just curious as may apply to cambridge next year if ness, even tho my chances of getting in are slim-nil.
