How much to fix the fuel gauge?

A family friend wants to sell me their car, but the furl gauge is stuck on empty, I have no idea why or how, just want to know roughly it would cost to get it sorted.

depends what the fault is, could be a broken wire or a fuse blown, so minimal cost, could be sender, could be gauge cluster. if these it could be expensive - depending on make of car, how common they are, how available parts are from breakers etc.
