Patents - Ever thought of getting one?

Hi.

Im doing my project on the subject of patents, specifically for students. I was wondering what you thought of patents from a students perspective. Would you ever think of getting one if you had a great idea.

The way I see it is they cost too much, the protection they offer seems limited, and require thousands of pounds just to enforce them.

Id like to hear what you all think if you have an opinion on them.

Yeah, I've occasionally had (what I think are) brilliant idea which I want to develop further, but can't be bothered. Probably looked into getting a patent about twice over the last decade.
