What do you Brits have against Americans?

They may be grouped as muslims because the probable cause of their actions that creates news worthy stories are driven by their religion. And you can't call Europeans Christian... some EU countries have a christian minority. Meaning that's misrepresentation. However in the countries you listed, Islam is the vast majority. Saudi is close to 100%.

If you genuinely believe that newspapers and news channels are openly and overtly promoting widespread racism then you have totally missed the point of the article.

The rest of UK is not like you.

A third of the residents of London are from ethnic backgrounds.

To even try and create a logical proof that we are racist xenophobes when our own capital city is 1/3 non white, is unbelievably stupid. You may be part of some backwards racist community but the rest of UK doesn't share your ethos.

I'm too bored now to continue arguing when every piece of credible evidence, from statistics on the younger generations (in school), the current demographics for ethnic communities and population statistics of ethnic communities in London has been ignored and sidestepped with a feeble argument by a backwards thinking racist.

Judging by the row of red gems on your username, it looks like the rest of TSR is too.

PS, QED means 'which was to be demonstrated' or in short 'as demonstrated.' The only thing you've demonstrated is a lack of intelligent thought. Not the fictional racist beliefs of a nation.

And you call me the racist
Oh look, every action caused by all Arabs is due to religion as none have free will or culture, just religion!
Thanks for proving my point - the UK is racist and don't even know it.

May and probable. Not are and definite. One implies possibility. The other confirms it. I'm not saying they are all driven by religion. I'm saying that the stories that hit the news are usually about religious extremists. That in no way means that the rest of the Muslim world is like that. The only people who jump to the conclusion that the minority represents all of them are racists. So...you.

I like America. Dont take the stereo-types to heart. We have them too but I know most of them arent true so I dont care. I went to New York a couple of years ago and everyone was lovely and friendly, the odd crazy and rude person, but you get them here and everywhere else. Most of them time when people say those things about America they are joking. Dont worry yourself about it

You think it's only the British who stereotype Americans this way? Try THE WHOLE WORLD.

I am an American.we have stereotypes of other cultures.I hear a lot of Americans bashing the UK.what do we say about Mexicans or Canadians?American history is littered with prejudice and discrimination.our attempt to commit genocide of the native population.not allowing a black man to vote until the 1960's.we definitely have had our growing pains.

It's because they can't take a joke :P

Yeah, why do they do that? I think it's because they're jealous. I'm British but I know Americans are far more awesome than Brits.

My friends just call it taking the piss or whatever. I don't mind too much because often times, until you meet a few Americans - well, let's just leave it at the news hasn't been showing our best side lately (And I think the camera adds a few kilos too...).

I think it's funny when I get teased because the slang here still confuses the hell out of me. And don't even try to get me on a roundabout. Or the fact it took me a few to get over my shock when... GASP, cars stop for pedestrians!? :O ... my standards are low! I'm trying the local foods and doing my best to learn how to get along with folks here. I did try some of the American food and got a giggle out of all the Elvis posters. I am impressed to see how much American music made it over.

And honestly, 'America' as a stereotype is inaccurate because there's so MUCH America. A New Yorker is vastly different from a Texan who is not the same as a Californian and so on.

Oh, and our politicians of late. Ugh. Don't even get me started.

I love Americans. I find nothing wrong with them.

I find that Americans talk more about the Brits than we do though. Especially when I'm on Xbox with them.

They're just stereotypes, don't get your knickers in a twist.

A lot of what we see of your news channels (Fox), or some of the news stories that come out (gov. shutdown, mass shootings, capitalist healthcare) just seem very bizarre and maybe even a little frightening if we imagine ourselves living in that way, so maybe there are some bigger stereotypes, but no more than what you might think our 'crazy' 'socialised' healthcare or lack of guns etc.

Edit: In short, we know most of you guys are normal, sane people. Not everyone can be a Bill O Reilly :P

we brits are amazed at your culture. Well not at your culture , but the stupidity that is embedded within it. You know , Fox news never being able to report a single story without making itself seem biased , look lost and just generally "american".
Then you have the gun culture . All of america is up in arms with school shootings , govn shootings etc. Yet everyone wants to STILL have a gun.
These huge debates about immigration and how "some people are not American and dont belong in this great nation" , not realising NATIVE americans (you know , the people that were massacred and overthrown) are the true residents.
Then lately i watched this small interview about how "smart" americans really are , and this interviewer asked the public where UK was on a map. What currency the brits use etc.
Some said AUSTRALIAN DOLLARS.........

These are just the small things that annoy most of the Brits to be honest. That and calling yourself "the greatest country on earth" isnt going to make you look any better.

Not exactly all Americans but you just have to look at the recent stories in the news to understand. Your government, politics, parts of your society...
Just stereotypes everywhere. Every culture has them. I've lost count the number of times I've heard Americans cite Brits as 'posh tea drinkers with bad teeth'.

That said, right now I think much of the world is just looking on in amusement more than anything at the way the US government has been shut down. It's all a bit bizarre and comical to the those outside the USA.

tbh i dont see why brits would have anything against americans since i think brits and americans are the same thing
it was the british that created white americans when they colonised america so the brits cant really hate americans because they are the same to me

Im American, and I've always been fascinated by other cultures, particularly the British culture. Naturally, I started doing research, and came across numerous(at least a dozen that i actually watched, but there were plenty more) Youtube videos of British people bashing Americans. At first, I thought these were isolated incidents, then I discovered this site, and also discovered that arguably the majority of the people on this site also seem to have some sort of deep seated hatred of Americans. I didnt let it perturb me however, and decided to Study Abroad in London at KCL. I got there in a joyous mood, but that mood was soon changed when I realised that me and my friends were automatically being categorized as fat, dumb, and unaware of world events, purely because we were American(We are the opposite of all three). We were also criticized for not understanding British slang and for "not speaking proper English".

Can someone please explain to me where this is coming from. I dont like to make generalizations, but all of the experiences that I have had with British people have involved them making fun of the US in some way, shape, or form. Is it jealousy? I personally dont see what there is to be jealous about, but I cant really think of any other reason. I know that you all are not like this, but why do British people take the worst possible stereotypes of Americans and push them on all of us?

If you're going to neg me, give me an explanation at least.

I negged you because to me, you come across as arrogant and ignorant and that doesn't help your case.

1: "Not speaking proper English"
- I don't know how you pronounce things, but if you say things like "chips" instead of "crisps", and "fries" instead of "chips", then I must agree that you don't speak "proper" English. You speak American English. I'm sure you agree that you speak "American" English. Not a bad thing at all, there's nothing wrong with it, but I simply consider this a different dialogue to "English".

2: Is it jealousy". Your ignorance and arrogance, which is a stereotype of Americans, comes across here. You assume that because some people from England don't get on with some people from America, that it's simply jealousy (because America must surely be the superior country, right?)

3: "Why do British people take the worst possible stereotypes of Americans and push them on all of us?" And yet here you are, stating the stereotype of american-hating brits?

I'm interested to hear your response.

Amazing, I'd say it's also part of our culture to jokingly take the piss out of each other as well
