Mmu illustration

Ive recieved unconditional offers from both MMU and Stockport college. But I cant decide where to go- I really need help.

I thought stockport was crap, but have now overtime realised how good the course is, offering smaller groups, personal tutoring and a good course.

Man met with its new state of the art building and great course.

I dont know wether to stay in my surroundings in stockport or go somewhere new and different.

Both are good, any advice would really be appreciated, please help !!

Is there anyone on here that is on the illustration course now that could give me an opinion on whether the course is good or not.

If you live in Stockport then I would suggest coming to Manchester. Get the full uni experience, make tons of new friends and be more independent. I'm from Bangor and a few people I went to school with chose to go to Bangor Uni over other offers and most of them didn't socialise as much as the other students because they had nothing new to do/see in the city so nights out where a bore.

Try comparing the two on KIS too.

i live in stockport, but only live about twenty minutes away on the bus from the manchester city centre, so thats not really an issue about going out. both courses are quite similar, but i hate stockport town centre. im not bothered about the social side really as im staying at home ( dont live far away so dont see the point)

Just in a bit of a twist really. I know a lot of people at mmu doing art courses and a lot of them didnt like it. but i guess you make the ost of it yourself.

thanks for your help mate.

That makes sense, best of luck making your decision. Can i ask why your friends didn't like being at mmu?

dont base your thoughts of feelings on what any of my mates say btw. Everyone said the college im at now is terrible, but its actually really good. You make the most of it wherever you are.

Ive got friends now that were on the illustration course last year that left and came to where i am now to do a degree, i asked them about it and they felt like they werent being taught properly and were being left alone way too much.

Thats what i am worried about at MMU, I want to go to a place to improve on and challlenge what i can do, but with such big classes will i able to talk to teachers and get help from them. They have said there are smaller groups, but when ive been they look quite big.

I went to the recent visit days, but tbh they were a bit of waste as i was just shown round and couldnt really ask any of the questions i wanted as the student showing me around wasnt from the illustration department. The new facilities look great though.

Oh don't worry nothing short of death is stopping me from going to mmu in September. I also went to the open day and it did seem there was a lack of tutors/teaching staff but I guess thats the nature of things in some unis/colleges. At my current college its the same, I think I only speak to my course leader for like 20 mins a week and then just go off to work on my own.

after a lot of thought ive decided to choose going to a college instead. I hope i dont regret it and find out its rubbish, but thats the risk..

Reasons
- closer student/teacher interaction
-I will probably improve more there as an artist.

most stressful decision ever !!!!!!!
