You need a full diagnosis of dyslexia since the age of 16 from a psychologist to qualify for DSA.

As said above you need to do a test (by a trained person) they will need a bit of time to write up a report. After that you can start applying for DSA if it comes back you are.

Wrong. I wasn't in compulsory education and it was free.
That was then, this is now.

OP read this.

http://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/about-dyslexia/faq/students.html

It makes clear that there is NO funding available anymore.
It will cost you about £400 for an assessment.

If he is in uni they can apply for the uni to pay for it, they will need your bank statements to show your a poor student who spent 80% of your loan on beer but still...

Some uni's do still offer free dyslexia diagnostic assessments (not screenings) with educational psychologists for their students. All uni's should be able to assist with applications for funding such assessments, possibly in part or full, through access to learning funds. Sadly, this doesn't always happen.

A friend of mine has just had a full assessment for dyslexia at our HE college two weeks ago and they paid for it. He had to jump through a load of hoops to be assessed though.
Do you lot not read threads?
The OP is not in HE
