Driving with someone in the boot

No it was actually very cheap. I lived with my parents then in the middle of the countryside and they used a specialist countryside insurance (Cornish Mutual I think?). I was a bit naughty and was a named driver, but it was worth it and only about 300 quid. Fully comp would only have been about a grand. It wasn't that slow, with the fuel pump turned up and the fairly low ratios in the gearbox it'd shift fairly well if you put your foot down. The chassis was very well balanced too, with fairly stiff +2in springs in it as well so it stayed flat around the corners. I had one or two boy racers in the lanes and tight A-roads which took the smile off their faces  I got rid because back then, going on six years ago, it was 80+ quid to fill up. At todays prices that'd be over a hundred quid, to go about 300 miles. My current car, a Golf TDI estate, will push 550 miles on 60 quid.

Cool ride for sure. A petrol model converted to LPG would be a good shout- especially with the massive boot

Defenders with a V8 are fairly rare. There's a couple of Stage 1 V8s knocking around, Series IIIs with Range Rover suspension and modified to take the V8. There are a few North America spec Defenders with V8s and autos, but the vast majority made were made with the 200Tdi/300Tdi/TD5/Puma diesel engines.

I had a 1988 Range Rover Classic V8 converted to LPG, that was pretty fun.
I have been in the boot when younger. I was the youngest son and when we needed someone in the boot i was the volunteer.

Was it safe? No
Was it legal? No

But it was the only option we had to get people around sometimes so we did it. Estate car, Country roads.

Have also done 4 people in the back on saloons, Very uncomfortable.

I once rode in the boot of a Volvo estate from Birmingham to cornwall on some cushions when I was a little kid.

Not the comfiest way to travel, sat up but was great for laying down and sleeping to make the time pass.

Couldn't get away with that these days, though.

Were these estates or saloons you put people in ? Mine is a saloon and I worry that the air lock might be a problem

I already mentioned it in the post whether it was an estate, saloon or hatchback.
