Lol. There's 207 international teams. So the average is China or Iraq (103 and 104). You're right, we're the same level as them :borat:

Wooo is that how bad it is now? we're comparing ourselves to Iran and china? some fans never cease to amaze me.

We're talking about world cup/euro level. Not playing against teams that dont even care about football. Iran has political issues to focus on and China couldnt care less about football. England lives and breathes football yet they're awful. You'd see it if above average teams kept playing against us and beating us, e.g chile a few months ago, but no. The FA decides to set up friendlies with countries whose entire population could fit in wembley stadium, E.g Andorra. That gives people like you the impression that we stand a chance when nobody in the world considers sees us as the slightest threat. Its a joke.

You're so clueless you don't even know what average means. ****ing hell your entire post is awful. England aren't in the group of teams that are likely win a tournament, but we are easily top 30 in the world. Way, way above average.

You also can't read, I said Iraq.

Costa Rica lol. To be honest, qualifying from our group was always false hope.

Any team below 30 is likely a team that doesn't consider football its national sport or is currently experiencing political problems and so has other worries than football. What is awful about that? You're the clueless child that has no standards what so ever. USA, a country who is well known for not caring one bit about football has even surpassed us. The shame, its sad that you fail to see it.

We clearly have different ideas of whats classed as average. So have fun telling yourself that we're good. Don't worry, we'll get really far next time..

You have got to be joking, Costa Rica are not better than England. England aren't as good as the media hype suggests but they are above costa Rica.

Still consistently top 8 in the world is it not? England are far from bad. They aren't going to win a tournament any time soon, but they are still a fairly good side. I don't get why fans can't just sit on a middle ground, why they have to see the side as either woeful or world beaters.

Italy just lost to Costa rica. Still havent accepted that England are the weakest team in the group by miles?

They aren't the weakest team in the group. They've had a poor couple of results, but they've performed very well. Costa Rica have played out of their skin, but in terms of the squads, Englands is far stronger.

Is a squad better for having more individual talents to being able to play as a team and win? We have the individual talent but as a team, we're average, and that's pushing it.

Don't bother, he's one of those over the top pessimistic supporters. They're as bad as the ones claiming we were gonna win the whole thing.

In past tournaments I'd agree that they're an average team and more a collection of 11 individuals than a team, but this time round England have been rather good, it's just 2 moments where the defence has switched off and let a striker get half a yard on a cross, and they've been punished twice. But for those two moments and Rooney not being half an inch taller, we'd be sat here with England having chalked up 4 points and looking to progress through. It's a small rub of the green and a couple of small mistakes that have left those performances with 0 points and a first round exit.

Did you see how good the team was? 9 players that would be called 'world class': Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Scholes, Gerrard, Lampard, Beckham, Owen, Rooney. Possibly even Neville. Quarter finals was the minimum he should have reached with that team.

So what ?
You still need a manager who puts players in correct positions has good tactics
Look how thing failed at man u or cappello with his over intensive training

Better squad? doubt it. We have a few former world class players. Only about 4 players in that squad have played in the champions league. I have no idea what strong squad you guys are referring to honestly. Living in the past i tell you.

You can't be serious?

2nd and 5th top scorers in the PL. Top assister. Half of the best CB partnership. First choice keeper for the champions. 4 key members of one of the best attacking sides in PL history. Meanwhile Costa Rica's best player can't get into the Arsenal team...

They performed better than us, yes, but they don't have a better squad.

2002
Drew with Sweden
Beat Argentina
Beat Nigeria
Beat Denmark
Lost to Brazil

2004
Lost to France
Beat Swizerland
Beat Croatia
Lost on pens to Portugal

2006
Beat Paraguay
Beat Trinidad and Tobago
Drew with Sweden
Beat Ecuador
Lost on pens to Portugal

There's nothing special about that record. In general we beat the teams that we should, with a couple of draws thrown in, but lost as soon as we came up against a team near our level. Argentina being the only exception.

Just because he did better than Moyes and Capello doesn't mean he did well, he achieved the minimum he should have with that squad. If we'd have gone out before we did, ie to Ecuador in 06 or Denmark in 02, or in any of the groups, that would rightly be seen as a failure.

World cup is the big stage, playing against the best players in the world. Not hull city, reading derby etc. This is exactly like the "demolishing small teams and we think we're good" idea i was referring to earlier.

These players, use the world cup as a stage to show off what they can do and attract interest from big clubs because they've never had the chance. Its what happened with Ozil, Kevin Prince Boeteng, Suarez etc. You'll surely see the same with Mexican goal keeper too. He deserves it after his performance against brazil.

But what im trying to say is, dont underestimate players just because they're foreign and you dont see them play week in week out. You think we have better players because the names Rooney/Gerrard/Lampard look epic on paper because they have that reputation over here. Its the world cup, not some regional cup. We're facing off against the big guns, and we just embarrassed ourselves by putting our stupid pride infront of actually preparing for this world cup. We honestly shot ourselves in the foot.
