The Student Room Group

University Boredom....

Okay, well ive been in London now for a few weeks (about 2-3ish).
And like mentioned in one of my other threads, im quite a distance away from the uni, i dont drink, and i dont go to clubs. So at the moment im finding it ridiculously boring over here....people suggested joining societies which i am doing, but im finding its mainly elders in these.....seeing im really into my arts and music.
Im not desperate for friends, but it would be so relieving to make new friends and be introduced to new people. However in terms of girls, im ridiculously shy! so how do i try have a mixed sex group of friends because of this.

Any suggestions on how i can meet new people to relieve my utter boredom.

why dont u try going out in the evenings with people, you dont have to drink and im sure there will be other ppl out in the evenings who dont, it's just a good way to start meeting people.
Which uni are you at and which area are you living in? I live here, I could try and give you some ideas of where to go what to do.

join a library and a book club and meet people through that. Not necessary as part of university.

Or get a part time job if you have time, that's a sure way to meet new people.

that will just get you in with the ugly girls. Join some sports societies... like skiing and snowboarding... theres usually a good mix there.(even if a lot r toffs)

I would join a library and book club and i am not ugly.

well lets see..... even if you are genetically good looking.... your spare time is spent inside, reading books (putting on fat) and staying indoors (getting pale) and talking about books (yawn). Its just boring..... and you cant really socialise that well in a bloody library.

i'm not genetically good looking, all surgery

(not really). You're right about the pale thing though. Pale and Proud.

How ridiculous! Do you not realise that just because one of someone's interests is reading, it does not mean this is ALL THEY DO? This is a very secondary school type attitude you have, like assuming that because someone actually reads in reading time, and does well at school, they can't do other things. People were always surprised to find out that I danced, for instance.

I love reading, and would certainly consider joining a book club. On the other hand, I also do several types of dancing (certainly not fat!). There's nothing wrong with being pale anyway. I'm not really pale, but nor am I very tanned, and I'd quite like to be a bit paler than I am, to be honest.

Besides, the OP was talking about making friends, not about finding himself an attractive girlfriend. So your comments were mostly somewhat irrelavant.

Joining societies wherever your interests lie is a good start as well as the part time job idea. You can still go out and not drink. I have a friend who does this all the time and shes fine:smile:X

You're in London at uni. It's social suicide. I went to London last year for uni and it's the most ironically, depressingly dull place I've ever been. The place is too big and nobody wants to know.

Guess you could tell I didn't like London? Viva Leeds

Sorry that wasn't aimed at you personally.

Bored and London don't come together in the same sentence.

i got a lot of negative rep for my comments...... but the truth is you wouldn't be upset by my comments if they weren't true.

Yeah, I think you're wrong and also a ****.

I think trite anti-intellectualism, inverted-snobbery and 'books are boring, aren't they guys?????' lowest common denomonator gallery-playing horse**** should/will get you neg rep pretty much regardless of anything else.

reading books (putting on fat)

Tee hee, what the christ? I suppose since I started re-reading Roads to Freedom I have been piling on the pounds. Sartre goes straight to my hips :frown: .

talking about books (yawn)

I can't even reply to this, it speaks for itself beautifully.

staying indoors (getting pale)

Two points for your consideration:

1) No-one ever suggested that the OP or anyone else should chain himself to a desk/sofa/other thing found almost exclusively inside. I'm sure that reading for a bit won't turn him into a Kabuki performer. Or a bukkake performer. Or anything that else that turns the complexion noticeably whiter.

2) There's surely no inherent advantage in being tanned over being pale, is there?

So in short: you're a terrible poster, probably an even worse human being, and your 'YOU JUST CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!!!!!!;rant; ' responses just make you even more annoying.

Your friend,

Bread and Circlejerks. ;pkiss;
Hah pos rep for you 2moro b+c

Yeah, I think you're wrong and also a ****.

Just ignore him.
