Electronics A Level - external candidate options

Hello,

Does anyone know if it's possible to take an Electronics A Level as an external/private candidate? My son would very much like to take it, but his school is not being helpful, and are claiming that it's not possible, as the coursework/practical elements need to be assessed, and they don't have the time/resources to do this. He has access to all the resources he needs, and and is really keen to take it. His other A levels are Physics, Maths and 3D Product Design, and he wants to study Mechanical Engineering at university.

Self-study wouldn't be a problem. It may be that he needs an accredited tutor to confirm that the work is all his.

Has anybody else taken this route? Is this plan a viable one?

Thank you for reading.
The AQA specification states that it is available to private candidates.
Have a look for private candidate information on their web site.
