Exam Question - Fail = 0?

I heard from a friend today that anything below 40% in an exam counts as 0 due to it being a fail. Is this true or not specifically at UoB?

Hi :-)

This is a bit complicated but the system is the same in most Unis. If you get below 40% in a module at Uni it counts as a fail so a zero. However within each module you will be assessed a few times.

So for example you might get 60% in an essay and 30% in an exam all in the same module. If this module is marked 50:50 essay and exam you will get 45% in the module and not fail.

But if you get 40% in the essay and 30% in the exam you'll get 35% overall and therefore get a fail for that module

That's the same almost everywhere, but don't worry there is plenty of help available in every Uni so if you think you're struggling for whatever reason there will be support so hopefully it wont come to that

Hope this helps!
