Why can't DJs just play pre-recorded stuff at parties?

I mean, just look at this: http://youtu.be/mp8wR-i3WA8

Isn't he just "pretending" to DJ?

The only thing I see him doing is the transitions 😂

There doesn't have to be; it's all up to the DJ? I mean, I can go on stage with a p re-recorded track and just pretend to be turning knobs on a mixer but no one would be able to tell...

Because he's a fanny and house is easy to mix. This is a proper DJ . Ignore the beat stuttering, he doesn't usually do that obviously.

Thanks for the comment. I still have no idea what EDM artists do on stage apart from making transitions...

They decide what tracks to play based on feedback from the crowd and what musical direction they want to take the set to, but the big name house DJ's who throw their arms around and do very little on stage are pretty shoddy at their craft, there's much better examples out there, probably just avoid big room house if you're looking for these.

Check out EZ spinning Garage and House, technically about the best DJ i've seen..

Oh right, I'm just starting out and wanted a recommendation for a mixer. I was thinking Behringer BCD3000?

I'm always a bit weary of controllers, as I think unless you spend big bucks then you'll get something shoddy. DJing is an expensive hobby I'm afraid, my first setup was a pair of Technics 1210s and an Allen & Heath xone 22 mixer, I spent a whole summer saving for it, got CDj 800's now, but still got the same mixer.

What was your total expenditure?

About a grand, cus I bought Traktor scratch too, well worth it though imo, but I would trade for cdj's with usb functionality.
Personally I'd rather have Reggie Watts at a party...
