Second year studio flat

I'm currently in my first year at southampton, and next year my girlfriend plans to move down with me and share a one bed or studio flat. I've tried looking at properties through the university, but the only studios they have listed are very similar to halls, which would be very limiting and possibly an issue seeing as she wont be a student. I'm at a bit of a loss about what to do now and I'm feeling a bit of pressure time wise, we want to find somewhere that we wouldn't have to leave over the summer and preferably with a bit of flexibility like having our own TV, but I'm not sure where to look.

the only thing you'd be able to look at is a private let for non students... that may cause issues as lots of landlords don't want to let to a student (i.e. you) and be acreful about contract length
