Accommodation questions

I'm an exchange student coming in the fall and currently looking at accommodations. My home university requires that I take university accommodation and I'm looking at the self-catered flats. I was hoping to get insight from current students/people familiar with Edinburgh as to what I should apply for, as I've never been to Edinburgh. I'll be taking courses around George Square and King's Buildings and looking to keep my overall walk down. I'd like to be generally near Cowgate, Princes, George square, etc, but not right on Cowgate (Kincaid etc.) as I've heard its a little loud. Also, the actual quality of the room/building would be nice to know, as well as how social you think the buildings have a reputation for being.

Right now, I'm looking at Warrender Park Rd, WP Crescent, Salisbury Court, and maybe Sciennes.

Are there any threads with a write up on the different flats? Is there really a huge discrepancy between them?
