Hi guys, this is my first comment on TSR. I am looking to apply to Barts medicine a100 as an undergraduate student. By taking a look at my stats do I have a realistic chance of getting selected for interview?
UCAS tariff- 218 (3A* predicted grades. LAMDA grade 8 distinction. Music grade 8 pass.)
UKCAT- 660 average (2640 overall)

I really appreciate your help thanks. Please be realistic.

You can see past successful combinations of tariffs and UKCAT scores here:

Looks like you may be in the right ballpark, depends how badly you want to go here and what other options you have

If I was going for 2 BMAT unis, one of which is Oxford, when you will not know your result when you apply, then I would want my UKCAT unis to be as safe as possible. Barts is a possible, but by no means guaranteed, and whilst you should make Nottingham's first sift, they then score PS and add the two scores together, and PS is always very subjective. None of these choices are unreasonable, there are just safer places you could apply, given your stats.
However, that is just my opinion, and you may be confident in your choices.
Good luck!
Hi, What would your suggestion be for me if I want to apply to Barts with A*AAb achieved grades, EPQ-C and UKCAT -720Do you think I would have a chance or not?

Hi,

I was wondering what you consider to be a “safer” option to choose. I am in a similar situation to miniminter9 that I’m considering applying for oxford and ucl. Any advice on which ones are safer choices?

My UCAS: 152 (A*AA)
UKCAT: 702.5
SJT: Band 3

Newcastle, Sheffield (though use SJT as a virtual MMI station), Manchester, Bristol, SGUL, St Andrews (also use SJT as a virtual MMI station), UEA (would be good for you as they use UKCAT after interview 50/50 with interview score, but check how they would use your GCSEs as usually score 9), Southampton, Plymouth, Aberdeen (use predicted A levels and UKCAT and carry your score forward as 50% of post interview ranking). Any of those should guarantee you an interview, so I might look at UEA (if you are not disadvantaged for only having 8 GCSEs) or Aberdeen, as your high UKCAT will get you some way towards an offer too
Good luck
Thanks man
Much appreciated

What are your opinions on Nottingham’s med school or Kings if you don’t mind me asking?

Not a good person to ask, I personally dislike London med schools (and London!).

Nottingham scores higher for student satisfaction and how prepared its graduates feel for their F1 year. They are also higher in percentage of graduates passing their specialist exams. I think it is a lovely med school (one of my children applied there). And it is not in London!!
