if I retook a year could I still get into a Russel group uni?

i.e. if I spent 3 years at sixth form could I get offered from Russel group unis or would this disadvantage me at all? I'm particularly looking at English

Yes of course. I have resat a year and currently have offers from Birmingham and Nottingham. York and Leeds haven't got back to me yet.

Retaking a year (or just exams) is pretty common and I don't believe it disadvantages the majority of people. Especially for a course like English you should be fine. It's good to acknowledge it in your personal statement though and turn it around into a good thing that you did.
