What devices do you have currently?
HP Pavilion, Dell Inspiron 3558, would actually prefer 14 inches but that wasn't an option haha

Also, is it generally better to get an i5 laptop with a lower processing speed, or an i3 with a higher speed?
Thank you for your help, I really appreciate it!

Unfortunately, the laptop size is one of the most important things for me, I'm 5 foot 1 and lugging my 15.6 laptop to school has been a real pain so I can't imagine taking it to lectures everyday! The top end of my budge is probably £600 ish, I'm willing to pay slightly more just for the size.

What do you think of these two?

Just realised that both laptops linked in my post (pending approval) have quite poor resolutions... there's always a catch
I know you would want a brand new laptop but what about a refurbished laptop?

the x220 may not be the sleekest laptop but it does the job well. Some come with built in fingerprint readers. This one includes an SSD

Wow that is a rugged laptop! Actually I wouldn't mind buying a certified refurbished laptop! I would prefer the screen to be slightly bigger though (sorry screen size is basically the most important factor for me unless there's an ultra light 15.6 laptop!)

Thanks for your help!

Affordable
Good specs
Thin & light

You get to pick two when it comes to laptops- you can get solid specs for a given price point but it's going to be a conventional bulky 15" machine, you can get a low price 13-14" model that will have to compromise on specs, or you get a well spec'd thin & light by paying a solid chunk more than a conventional laptop of that spec would cost.

This would be my suggestion for a little under your max budget;
