Can an international student be self employed

I’m an international student who’s going to come to the UK for a foundation course on Tier 4 type visa. I wanted to know is it legal to be a stock trader while I’m studying and is it legal to buy things and resell them for example buy things from garage sales and sell them on eBay making a profit?

Its a tricky area.

You arent allowed to be self employed as that is specifically forbidden.

If you are selling a few things, then you need to decide at what stage that becomes a business activity i.e if its more than a few one offs then you are going to be classed as self employed and in breach of visa conditions . This is assuming they catch you.

You can work 20hrs normally as an employee in term time or unlimited in non term time.
