Currently failing My Retake Year and I need to turn it around

Hi. So last year I failed my A levels and decided to retake the year. The thing is I'm not doing any better this year, I'm still depressed and my attendance is really low and I did awful in my mocks. I'm potentially going to be kicked out of sixth form which really sucks. I just wanted to ask if anybody has any advice on retaking. I'm lucky enough to be able to turn it around as there are 3 months till my first exam. I guess I just need some advice on how to go forward. My subjects are Physics, English Language and Literature and History. If anybody has any tips they used to do well in those subjects or any success stories.l that would be really helpful.

Hi, first of all YOU GOT THIS!!!
also I only took stem subjects(maths, bio and chem) so won’t be of much or any help. One thing that boosted my grades was Anki it’s a flash card app that has spaced repetition incorporated have a look if you’re not already using it and best of luck with your exams!

Lets tackle this in a different way and bring some autonomy back into your life by that I mean control. At this time you making the decision rather than others who appear to make them for you. Via subconscious you are making the decision. The evidence your low attendance which contributes to your poor performance it is a vicious circle. The depression is informing you that there is something wrong and to pay attention but to take an action.

Please book an appointment with your GP to get a referral to an mental health professional or organisation. In addition get your bloods checked for B12, low hormone D3 levels. Normally you get Zn and Magnesium in your foods if you have healthy diet if not speak with your doctor about these supplements especially Magnesium 'Now, research out of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) shows that magnesium is also absolutely critical for the health of the brain. It can improve short-term and long-term memory and reduce the risk of age-related memory loss.

Then you may answer if you wish the following question.

1.I do not wish to know grades did do well in your GCSE?
2. Have you had Covid?
3. Are you eating healthily?
4. How is your sleep hygiene? If other words are you getting enough sleep?

I would suggest you withdraw from your A-levels because you have already done so physically by your absences. However I understand you are emotionally attached to them are desperate for a positive outcome.

If interested in a positive outcome let me tell you it will probably take longer than 3 months. It will be undertaken in incremental steps you may well end up with A'levels but later in another year. All get to where you to going another route.

Please tell me your career aspirations?
By this I mean the actual Job/Profession you wish to end up doing?

Together lets have ago at tackling what feels like a catastrophe into a tsunami of success...

Hi thanks for the comment.

1. I did really well in my GCSEs averaged a grade 8.
2. Unfortunately had COVID twice.
3.Been trying to do that recently as well as exercising regularly.
4. My sleep has been all over the place, again its something I've been to sort it out recently.

I really want to get a PHD as I've always wanted to do something based in Politics and Activism. Specifically the UN and diplomacy.

Hello I’m also retaking the a levels I do maths bio and chem and am also not on track, what I would say is visit the gp and also as dumb as this sounds, try and self resolve some of the stuff you think, sometimes by thinking you’ll deal with it later helps.
We got three months to revise and do good,
Also the days you don’t go to school, you need to try do some work and in terms of the attendance maybe speak to someone in school about it.

Physics, English Language and Literature and History.

I personally would drop all the courses as an act of damage limitation and be thinking about the Access course, with the intention of applying perhaps doing a degree course. Alternatively, I would just do one subject for me which would be English Language and Literature exam. As for Physics or History, I would do these subjects another time maybe in 2024. Then do three in one sitting during a booked work holiday. I think there is a need to have more time and combine academic with vocational training and qualification. I think it will pay dividends. If you trained in things where you could if need be work for a agency or be self-employed. Translator, Linguist, Para Legal, Programmer, Lawyer...etc.

A-level Latin
There is some GCSE Latin stuff on youtube

Miscellaneous various thoughts I hope you find something.
In your career area, different languages are very important especially

I will see if the doctor was willing to give a note. Covid has given me 'A Get out of Jail Card.' There has been a lot of disruption in education with Covid. Never have Schools, Colleges, and Universities not done exams. Students have been struck by a lot of illnesses.
Also, I may start on the road to recovery by perhaps training as a Legal Secretary, with a view to becoming a paralegal or directly into a paralegal and then a university degree and then a conversion course. I think it would be good in terms of my aspirations. I looking for an apprenticeship. I can work as an agency legal secretary/ Paralegal.
This is the area I would like to work in

I suggest you look at their people and qualification

1. Doing three A levels this year.
2. Three A levels another time.

Oxford:
I am going to target Oxford and the traditional and non-traditional Russell group universities like Coventry. I'll give myself 3-4 years and intend to apply them with actual grades rather than predicted ones. A job that pays quite well whilst I sort these A-levels out.

In the first year of self-study, I would look to apply for an apprenticeship so I am earning and can avoid working in supermarkets, Fast food restaurants Health Care Assistants, Coffee Shops etc. Nothing wrong with these jobs just not for me. I would decide on the A-levels that I am going to study. Now for the Universities, I would select a course that fewer students do because that lessens competition. I would apply for the classics. Why? fewer students and you are more or less guaranteed an interview.

Classics (Literae Humaniores) is a wide-ranging degree devoted to the study of the literature, history, philosophy, languages and archaeology of the ancient Greek and Roman worlds

Admissions interview 94% of the applicants. Latin is a good degree for Languages, Law conversion courses the BPC/PDGL and Master of Psychology Conversion degree. I think such things are good for the United Nations.

I am going to do a self-study whilst completing my apprenticeship or other training. I may decide to go back to college or do a year of distance learning and sit the retakes using an Advance learning loan or via my earnings.

I am going to look through the different boards, syllabuses, and papers both of the Standard and International Cambridge A-level.

Voluntary work/assistance
I will also look to do voluntary work in the area related to my interest in "Politics and Activism. Specifically the UN and diplomacy." I may look to do voluntary work for Citizen Advice, Refugee this will depend on the opportunities in my area. Over the next 1-4 years will do things that enhance my CV. I am interested in getting a good grade in the year 3 or 4 sit exam in the work holiday.

I would look for interesting things or things that will increase my skill set or can be used to support myself financially later on. I would also look for things to put in my University student personal statement. I can pick some things for free for those under 24.

I know I saw this late but I really wanted to thank you for your response. I'm sitting one A level this year English Language and Literature and applying for apprenticeships and internships to do in the meantime whilst doing self study. I'm still not sure what I want to do in terms of higher education but luckily the internships I am applying for are surrounding the field I hope to pursue. Thank you for including links and everything. This was sooo helpful
