RAF Air Operations Control Specialist training

Hello all I’ve seen another thread discuss the breakdown of the Air Ops routes and how to get there but have been struggling to find any details on the duration of the specialist/professional training. I understand that part of the training used to take 6 weeks at RAF Boulmer but am not certain if this duration is still currently accurate, it’s the only information I’ve found that has the time attached to it. Hoping that I’ll get a response here from people that have been on the course or know a better source than me.

Fyi I’ve passed my CBAT and chosen the Air Ops Control route, I’m rapidly approaching my filter interview date and am trying to brush up on as much detail as possible.
They don’t actually know what the Phase 2 is going to look like exactly it’s still being planned and the original separate ATC & ABM courses are on going.

I know that’s not much help but you’ll be one of the first on the new joint course if you’re going through selection I imagine.

It could be worth speaking to the AFCO and explaining the above and ask what they are expecting of you.

Ah good to have some more clarification.

After asking around a lot I’ve come to that conclusion to see what the AFCO have to say about it.

It is somewhat nice to know I’m not going crazy looking for information that seems to be hiding from me when there isn’t any out there on the new time structure.

I’ll keep this thread updated as I go along for those just passing by and having a glance.

Thank you
Hi All,

I've just seen this thread and thought I would add some information for you. Following on from a recent RJP @RAF Shawbury. You will likely be streamed into either ATC (School of Air Ops Control) based at Shawbury or Weapons Control (School of Aerospace Battle Management) at RAF Boulmer following graduation from IOT. Both will start with a 3 week common air ops course, following completion you will go to JATCC (Joint Air Traffic Controllers Course) for ATC or WCC (Weapons Controller Course) at Boulmer which are both 22 weeks in length.

This is all subject to change, due to the recent amalgamation of roles. But at the moment, Air Ops Control is being heavilly recruited to my knowledge. And by the looks of it the RAF are addressing the time at which you will be streamed.

Hope this Helps
