Getting a student account with no credit history?

So I'm 18, and I've never had a credit card, or anything that would effect my credit score in any way. I applied to HSBC for a student account recently but, as I expected, I got rejected due to credit score.

Are there any banks that are more likely to accept someone who doesn't have any credit history?
You don't need a credit history for a student account?
Most of them just have debit cards and if you do have a credit history then you can get the credit card
I got HSBC, was told I could have the account but wouldn't be able to have a credit card yet.
Did you do it in store?

I did it online, and I did apply for the credit card, which explains why I got rejected now that I think of it. Thanks.
