so I've been recently rejected for a Santander student account , in branch though it was a mistake and told me to reapply, but still rejected I had no problem getting a very account / metro current account , is there any that don't perform credit checks/ hard searches

Student bank accounts come with an overdraft, and I'd be very surprised if a bank offering an overdraft didn't do a credit check/hard search.
